Market Rates: Houston Electricity 11/30

Today’s window into the Texas electricity market and the corresponding electric prices is for Houston electricity (Centerpoint TDSP). The electric rates for Houston are typically in the middle area of Texas prices, not as cheap as Dallas but not as expensive as South Texas. The month to month variable rates start at 7 cents, and the long term fixed plans start at 8 cents. We also highlight the different green energy plans available in the Houston electricity market.     1. Southwest Power & Light’s 7.1 number above is misleading. Yes they use that number multiplied times your kWh usage total, but then they always add on another 3.0+%, so your total bill is actually based on approximately 10.1+%

        That might very well be true. For customers to really understand their bill, they’ll need to read the electricity facts labels of each plan that are provided. Each different REP has their own way of doing things. I can’t keep track of all of that, but I can try to give people a decent starting point to begin their comparisons and their shopping.
