    1. I am looking for a plan that does not punish users for conserving energy and using under 1000 kwh. I believe it’s expecially unconscionable for allegedly “green” companies to strongly discourage conservation in this way. Do you have any comments or suggestions regarding this issue?

      1. Andrea,

It’s actually pretty standard procedure for every company to charge an extra couple tenths of a cent for under 1k a month usage. It’s not really a decision to price gouge, or take advantage of customers as much as it’s a fashion of the companies having to buy their electricity in bulk from the energy producers, like Centerpoint and Oncor. Like anything else, things are more cheaper when you buy something in bulk, and it’s the same for electricity generators and the REPs.

It has nothing to do with any kind of conservation penalty. It’s just that the companies need to buy the electricity, they get cheaper to buy more. When customers use more, those savings are passed onto them.

        Does that make sense?
