But the new Trump administration may stop the program in a few weeks, instead.

Texans could miss out on money that helps make energy upgrades cheaper. These federal energy rebates were created under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Texas has asked for over $689 million to help homeowners buy efficient appliances, insulate homes, and save on their bills. But political changes might stop these rebates. Without them, Texas electricity customers may pay more for upgrades and face higher utility bills.

What the Federal Energy Rebates Offer

The rebates help people lower their energy use and save money. They offer discounts on better appliances, insulation, and other home upgrades. For example, you could get help buying heat pumps, electric stoves, or insulation. The rebates help cut your costs to upgrade your home’s energy efficiency. So, not only do they help you save money putting them in but also when you use them.

These upgrades make homes more comfortable and cheaper to power. They also help the Earth by cutting energy waste. Plus, some would add to your home’s value at sale time. Many Texans could use these rebates to lower their bills and improve their homes.

For now, the DOE has approved the Texas rebate funds. The State of Texas will start taking rebate applications in Summer 2025. But, the program may not be there for much longer.

Why Texans May Lose Federal Energy Rebates

The future of these rebates is unclear. The Department of Energy is in the middle of reviewing state applications. Some states have already received their funding. But coming political changes might stop the program. President-Elect Donald Trump has said he could end or delay the Inflation Reduction Act. If that happens, the rebate program may end.

Some Republican lawmakers do support these rebates, but it’s not clear how they might change. Without the program, Texans may have to pay full price for energy upgrades. As a result, many would be hard pressed to lower their energy use and save on utility bills.

What This Means for Texas Power

If these rebates end, it will cost Texans more to make homes energy-efficient. As electricity prices could go up, saving energy will be harder. Therefore, losing this help would be a big setback for many families.

However, even without rebates, you can still find ways to save on your electric bill . One of the easiest is to shop for a better electricity plan. Visit https://www.texaselectricityratings.com to compare plans and lower your energy costs today.

Will Texans Get Federal Energy Rebates?
