It has a business-friendly environment, open land, and its own power grid. Consequently, these factors make it an ideal place for new nuclear power projects. Companies like TerraPower and X-energy see Texas as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2025\/02\/24\/texas-nuclear-power-advanced-reactor-abilene\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hub for advanced nuclear tech<\/a>. And more firms could follow.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>What Are Small Modular Reactors?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditional nuclear plants are large and costly to build. However, small modular reactors (SMRs) offer a new approach. These compact reactors are built in factories and assembled on-site. Therefore, they are safer, cheaper, and faster to deploy than old nuclear plants. If a reactor loses coolant, it can meltdown. But SMRs use advanced cooling systems to keep this from happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Is Green Energy Affected?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The US is moving toward approving SMRs, but progress is slow. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Nuclear Regulatory Commission<\/a> (NRC) has approved only a few designs so far. As a result, many firms are still working with the NRC to bring these reactors online.
