Winter is one of the\u00a0<\/span>best times to shop for energy rates<\/span> in Dallas. Electricity use is down, so rates are often lower than the summer. And if you\u2019re in the market for cheap rates from a\u00a0<\/span>top-rated energy provider in Texas<\/span>, then you should check out our TXU Energy offerings. This month, they have six 12-month, fixed-rate options to choose from. That’s a lot from one retail electricity provider. All TXU Energy plans listed here share the same\u00a0monthly base charge of $9.95. \u00a0So, keep that in mind when you consider the overall cost of each plan. Can I Get Free, Renewable Electricity in Dallas?<\/h3>\n

TXU Energy Free Nights & Solar Days 12\u00a0offers renewable electricity with a period of “free electricity”. From 5 AM until 7:59 PM every day, you\u2019ll pay an energy charge of 17 cents per kWh. And between 8 PM and 4:59 AM, you\u2019ll get “free electricity”. While you won’t have to pay the TDU distribution charges during the free period, you will have to pay them during the other times.<\/p>\n

You need to take special care when signing up for \u201cfree electricity plans.\u201d If you\u2019re someone who uses most of their energy at night, then this could be a good option for you. Otherwise, you\u2019re better off with a different plan. In Texas, hot summers mean more electricity use to cool your home during the day. And on a plan like this, an energy charge of 17 cents per kWh during the day can result in much higher than average monthly energy bills.<\/p>\n

One upside with this plan is that it offers 100 renewable energy, helping you reduce your carbon footprint.<\/p>\n

Which TXU Energy Plan Has the Cheapest Renewable Electricity Rates?<\/h3>\n

TXU Solar Saver 12\u00a0is a tiered-rate energy plan. It offers an energy charge of 9.8 cents per kWh for 0 – 1200 kWh of use, 4.9 cents per kWh for 1201 – 2000 kWh of use, and 10.3 cents per kWh for 2000+ kWh of use. Once you factor in the <\/span>standard TDU charges<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019ll pay an average of 15 cents per kWh for 1000 kWh of use. <\/span><\/p>\n

The plan also offers a $30 bill credit at 1200 kWh of use, helping lower your monthly Dallas electricity bill. While it’s a renewable energy option, only 25% of your energy use will be offset by green energy.<\/span><\/p>\n

TXU Energy Solar Value 12\u00a0 is a standard fixed-rate electricity plan. It offers a low energy charge of 9.3 cents per kWh. And once you add in the base charge and the standard TDU charges, the average for 1000 kWh of energy use comes to 11.5 cents per kWh. Part of that lower rate comes from the $30 bill credit when you use more than 800 kWh during a billing cycle. Just keep in mind that this plan is also only 25% renewable energy.<\/span><\/p>\n

TXU Energy Solar Value 12 offers cheaper electricity rates as long as your average usage stays around 1000 kWh. But the trade-off here is that at only 25% renewable content. If you really want a green energy plan, then there are other\u00a0renewable electricity plans with lower rates in Dallas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Which TXU Plan Offers Straightforward, Low Electricity Rates?<\/h3>\n

If you\u2019re not interested in tiered energy plans or bill credit options, then you\u2019ll want to check out\u00a0<\/span>TXU Energy Simple Rate 12. While it only sources 6% of energy from renewables, it has a straightforward energy charge of 8.4 cents per kWh. Once you add in the TDU charges and the base charge, your average rate for energy will be around 13.6 cents per kWh for 1000 kWh of use. As<\/span>\u00a0with all straightforward electricity plans, you won’t have to deal with tiered-rate surprises on your electricity bill.<\/p>\n

What Is TXU Energy’s Season Pass?<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0TXU Energy Season Pass 12 offers 50% off electricity usage during two discount periods. One is from December 1st (12 AM) until February 28th (11:59 PM). The other is from June 1st (12 AM) until August 31st (11:59 PM). During these two periods, you’ll pay half of your energy charge.<\/span><\/p>\n

The energy charge on this plan is 12.4 cents per kWh. Once you add in the monthly base charge and the standard TDU charges, your average rate for energy comes to 14.5 cents per kWh for 1000 kWh of usage. Keep in mind that this average rate comes from adding both the regular and the discount periods together.<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll want to avoid this plan. Even though it offers a 50% discount on electricity<\/a> during the high usage months, the overall rate is still quite high. Plus, you\u2019ll still have to pay both the base charge and the standard TDU charges each month. While you\u2019ll save during those discounted periods, you won\u2019t save as much as you could by choosing a cheaper Texas electricity plan<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

TXU Energy Clear Deal 12 offers the cheapest energy rates<\/a> with its tiered rate electricity plan. While this plan only uses 6% renewable content, you\u2019ll pay a low rate of 8.3 cents per kWh for anything under 1200 kWh of use. Once you factor in the base charge and the standard TDU charges, your average rates come to 10.5 cents per kWh for 1000 kWh of use.<\/p>\n
