Who Has the Cheapest Tiered Electric Rates?<\/h3>\n

To begin, Value Saver 12 from 4Change Energy is a tiered rate electricity plan with a $20 bill credit after 1000 kWh of use. You’ll pay 10.55 cents per kWh for usage between 1 – 500 kWh. That rate drops to 5.55 cents per kWh for usage between 501 – 1000 kWh. And for anything above 1001 kWh of use, you’ll pay 10.55 cents per kWh again. Once you add in the TDU charges<\/a>, the average rate for 1000 kWh of use is 10.5 cents per kWh.<\/p>\n

The worst predicted month on this plan is April with an estimated bill of $112 for only 857 kWh of use (an average rate of 13 cents per kWh). The best month on this plan looks to be August with an estimated bill of $225 for 1,812 kWh (an average rate of 12.4 cents per kWh).<\/p>\n

Next, Free Energy 12\u00a0 from\u00a04Change Energy is another tiered rate electricity plan that offers a $25 bill credit after 1000 kWh of use.\u00a0You’ll pay 13.9 cents per kWh for usage between 1 – 500 kWh. That rate drops to 0 cents per kWh for usage between 501 – 1000 kWh. And for anything above 1001 kWh of use, you’ll pay 13.99 cents per kWh again. Once you add in the standard TDU charges, the average rate for 1000 kWh of use is 8.9 cents per kWh.<\/p>\n

On this plan, April’s estimated bill of $109 for 857 kWh of use (an average rate of 12.7 cents per kWh) comes out as the best month.\u00a0The worst predicted month on this plan is August with an estimated bill of $236 for 1812 kWh of use (an average rate of 13 cents per kWh).<\/p>\n

Cheapest August Bill, Lowest Average Rate<\/h3>\n

Lastly, 12 Month Flat Tier Product from Constellation is essentially a 3 tiered electric plan. You’ll pay $105 for 1 – 1000 kWh of electricity use. For energy use between 1001 – 2000, there’s an additional $105 charge. Plus, any energy use after 2000 kWh has a further charge of 9.9 cents per kWh. Given the tiered rates of this plan, the average rate for electricity is 10.5 cents for 1000 kWh of use.\u00a0However, this\u00a0can be a bit misleading<\/a>. Using a single kWh over 1000 will add on that additional $105 charge, causing your bill to skyrocket.<\/p>\n

Once again, April offers the lowest predicted bill with an average estimated bill of $105 for 857 kWh of use. The rate averages out at 12.3 cents per kWh. The worst predicted month on this plan is August with an estimated bill of $210 for 1812 kWh of use (an average rate of 11.6 cents per kWh).<\/p>\n

One great thing about this plan though is that there’s only a $50 early termination fee. This can be much cheaper than the 4Change plans mentioned with early termination fees of $20 per month remaining in the contract. And it’ll make it easier to switch plans should you find a cheaper one before your contract expires.<\/p>\n
