Sometimes you just get lucky!

  Soooooo, ya gotta have electricity, right?
I had no idea who to choose, but I had make that decision.
I reviewed the rates and special offers of dozens of companies and decided 4Change Energy was the one for me.
Little did I know how very happy l would be with my new electric company!
My rates were very low, and soon an email came to me each week graphing my energy usage and comparing it to the week before. I could SEE how I was using my electricity! It one of the most useful tools I've ever encountered for tracking and adjusting my electric consumption. In fact, I now have such a good handle on my electric service, my electricity bill is LOWER than my water bill! That's FABULOUS!!!
Now, I need to figure out how to lower my water bill...

Easy move out

They have a very lose definition of average billing

  I used Direct for over a year and never had any issues with them except for with their idea of average billing. They offer average billing, but it is unlike any average billing I have ever experienced, and to this day, when I inquire about how average billing works with potential energy providers, I have never encountered Direct's odd approach to the matter.

Direct Energy doesn't average bill in the sense of keeping your bill around a steady amount and then adjusting it for over or under usage. Direct's average billing bills you exactly what you used that month, so the bill is always a surprise. I spoke to several customer service reps about this issue, and they all seemed confused by my confusion; like average billing meant regular billing. It's really weird.

So if you are okay with your average bill being a mystery surprise each month, go ahead and sign up with Direct. Honestly, it's the only issue I ever had with them, but it was enough to inspire me to switch to another provider. Just my personal preference, though.

Final bill issues

  Cancelled service a few months ago but never received final bill. Today I noticed I had been sent to collections and reported on my credit report ....but never received a final bill. I was told the bill should have arrived in December. Wouldn't u think they would have tried to contact me again before sending to collections. No email or final notice. And the manager never apologized and says he doesn't feel they did anything wrong. Thank u Justin C.

Bad Customer Service

  just got off phone with your customer service. have new contract which starts july 7, 2009 and new rate 4cents cheaper, however because old contract ended the 7th new one starts 8th i do not get new rate until next billing and there is nothing anyone can do [even the esclation dept]
so here i am expecting the new rate oh no no mrs. harrington you missed it by one day and no one on this planet can do any adjusting it is against policy. so i will probably pay, and cancel in 6 months when contract expires and i cannot wait this will be a belated CHRISTMAS
gift for me, i wish i could say i feel better i do not so i will end this with a rating stream energy a 3

Hidden Fees

  Do not switch to this power company. Very poor customer service. They have hidden fees which makes your bill far higher. I was with Texas Power prior and really liked them - wish I had not switched.

Southwest Power and Light have a nice section of your bill Special Service Fee Charges. They charge you $30 extra just for adjusting your service date. No warnings. They are very unhelpful and cannot speak clear English.

I have switched power companies 5 times before now and this is the first time I really regretted it.

  There are know words to say about this company it's a scam I never get a bill from them but they don't mind sending me late notices every month there trying to make me late fees on top of my bill this asswhole named Justin told me it was a problem really reporting them to the BBB

Horrible Customer Service

  I am just counting down the months so my husband and I can switch to a different electric company because I don't want to pay the cancelation fees, otherwise I'd already be with another company. Basically they shut off our electricity without notice and we had payment of file the entire time. They claimed that we didn't pay and that they they sent us a notice in the mail, but we never got any type of notice in the mail, email, or phone. My husband switched our card on the payment day and we received a confirmation email that everything was good. Over TWO WEEKS later they shut everything off, again without notice. My husband thought the whole street went our. Not once did it cross out mind they it would have gotten shut off because we have never missed a bill in our life. It was just ridiculous because after it taking a full 24 hours to get the electricity back on, after all my groceries went bad and we had to stay the night in a hotel, they were going to charge us a shut off and turn on fee. I called to complain and had people tell me a manger was going to call me back, 3 times... no one ever never did in s span of a few days. I finally called again and said I was not getting put on hold again and after arguing with some lady for 30 min, they finally agreed to waive the fee. THEN they proceeded to tell me how to pay bills and accused me of not having money, which is "Why I didn't pay on time." How embarrising to have someone tell you that when again, we had a valid card on file with more than enough money to pay 6 months worth of electricity. It was just so belittling. I'll leave my comment there. Worst customer service I have ever received.

Beware of this company

  We bought a new house and in the home buyers paperwork we signed for Champion Energy to be our service provider. Being a little tired of TXU, we tried it. Biggest mistake ever, in March 2008, we mailed a check for payment of $300, which was cashed, but our electricity was cut off the day after the check was cashed by Champion Energy. Never had my electicity cut off--ever--until that day. Customer service of this rinky dink place is small, so if you have problem with one CS person, the others CS people can overhear and you will have problems with them too. For two days, my electricity was off, I have 3 salt water aquariums, and Champion Energy CS people were rude. All over a month of service of $300, hate to think what it would be like dealing with them on high summer electric bills. Complete jerks, I changed providers when contract expired and they still tried to charge me early termination fee. Buyer beware of you choose them!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ripped off

  Buyer beware of this company. Not only is customer service poor, the rates published on the Mega Plans are not the rates you will be billed. In addition there will be monthly pass through charges for delivery. Mine was an additional 40%, 3 cents per KWH to be exact. The rates quoted are comparable to others who include the delivery charges, after the delivery charges might as well stay with TXU.

But once they have you hooked with the false rate, you are under contract and they won't let you go easily. I have filed complaints with BBB, PUC, and soon to be State Attorney General and will be moving to another provider immediately.

They will offer you a bundled price when you call to complaint, still 2 cents higher than many other retailers and comparable to the big guys TXU and Reliant. I just want my 7.3 cent rate as quoted, but guess I will settle for another company at 8.
