Used to be awesome, now billing nightmare

  I've been a StarTex supporter since 2008. They were awesome - had the lowest rate, and offered great customer service.

However, they were purchased by another company and things have gone downhill with their billing. I was double billed once (which was actually Oncor's fault) but it took months to straighten out because of StarTex's inability to generate a bill in a timely manner. Even though I had no bill to even pay, I got collection notices and daily phone calls about not paying the erroneous bill.

Most recently, I moved, and even though I was assured my rate would stay the same since I stayed in the same service area, my rate went up 1.45 cents per kWh. I called and they generated a new bill, except kept the same rate. I called again, and they generated a new bill, but this time, they only gave me a credit for less than half of my usage. I had received a new meter, and they only credited what was on the new meter.

My contract is up in less than a month and will be finding a new provider. It's a shame they were bought out and the customer service has gone down hill so much. As they say "StarTex, where customer service is always free" - what they don't say is that it's not always right.

Double Billing

  I was a supporter of Amigo Energy until they
changed their billing system, and double
charged all their customers---and act as if
their giving you good customer service by
having you extend your doubled bill. You're
not fooling anyone with a false extension.
It's like paying a bill every 15 days..instead
of monthly. I got my a second bill four days
after another, and they lied and said it was a
system glitch. If it's a glitch, why can't you
fix it. They're looking for a sneaky way to
update their accounts, since they charge from
the prior month. I can't wait until my
contract is up. It's over!

Disapointed!

  I am a big supporter of a clean environment, which is why I chose Green Mountain for my business. Things went great until it was time to disconnect. I called them on the last day I was leasing the building and told them I wanted to shut my service down. They said they would do it. A few weeks later, I received a bill for several days after that. When I talked to them on the phone, they claimed that I never called them in the first place. I tried to talk to supervisors and everything else, but nothing would fix the problem. I asked "what if I just refuse to pay it out of a sense of justice." The responded that they would mess up my credit. Well, now here I am about to hand over money to them that they don't deserve. I feel like I am being robbed.

Sneaky Green Mountain

  This place sucks. We signed up at a hut at a
festival in Texas. This company hired some kids
to preach about low rates and environment
friendly electricity; offering lower rates than
their competitor with no contract and a FIXED
RATE. Little did we know when we signed up
hoping to save some cash while also benefiting
the earth we were going to get screwed with
higher bills than we were getting from our old
provider. It was the highest bill we ever paid
in our small apartment. Not to mention not
using the A/C and suffering in the summer heat
of TEXAS 105 degrees throughout the day and
restricting TV and Computer usage just to save
up to have something to rely on once we moved
out. All in all this company is like most
today, without ethics and loyalty to their
supporters. How can a company survive if they
don't benefit anyone but they're selves, if you
feel like me let people know that this is a
scam so they may not continue to profit!

Stay Away From This Company

  I signed up with them for one of my rental units. At the time of sign up, all I was told was my rate. I rented my unit two weeks after signing up and called to cancel my service. I was informed that it would take 3 days and that my renter's electric would be turned off. I was told I should have called them a week earlier. No one had given me this information when I signed up. When I signed up, I did tell them that this was a rental unit and that I would cancel as soon as I rented it. I held on the telephone for twenty minutes before I was able to talk to someone and they hung up on me. Please, Please, do not sign up with this company.
