Glad we switched!

(5 / 5)

We switched to Direct Energy several years ago, and have $aved. Reliant calls us from time-to-time, but we'll never go back. So glad we made the switch!

Love the daily messages

(5 / 5)

I really like the daily messages that let you know where your balance is at, and like the fact that you can control how much electricity output you can have within your apartment. Ive just recently started, so I hope this keeps up! Just gotta get certain power saving energy lights and your bill should be positive easily.

By far the best in Victoria Area

(5 / 5)

I've been with Nueces for approximately 6 years. I'm moving to austin and finding the reviews helpful so I thought I'd help people moving to Victoria by letting people know that this is a cooperative - meaning that they are a non-profit and they return any excess funds to the customers. Every year I get a rebate that amounts to a month of service (almost $200 in my case). Nueces is almost half the rate of the for-profit providers. Never had a billing issue or any other funny business and neither have any of my neighbors.

Getting electricity on was simple, and it was even on ahead of schedule, but after I had the power turned off and moved out I received a bill for a month I was not even living there.

PUC whip

(2.8 / 5)

Recently my Ambit account was hijacked by Entrust Energy. Ambit sent out a second bill which included 600 extra kilowatts I'd used and a $199 early termination fee... understandable. After contacting Ambit I was surprised to find out this situation is quite common. I had paid my bill before realizing it was a new bill so I asked when I would get the $199 fee back; they said it would be applied to future invoices. Now unlike some, I pay my Ambit bill early... I also round the bill up to the nearest dollar, and I've been a loyal customer for over 7 years (almost 7000 useless travel points,) how do they say thanks, by keeping 1.5 months worth of payments. As I was speaking with the Texas PUC about the account hijacking I mentioned Ambits policy of keeping the "spoils" of my situations and applying them to "possible future invoices" and the PUC said "we'll look into this." This morning about 9am I get a call from Ambit wishing to address my PUC complaint and guess what... suddenly I CAN get my $199 fee back as a check, not a credit. In closing, don't get angry; call the PUC. If you don't have a leg to stand on with the PUC, you shouldn't be complaining.

Bad service and inept service personnel

(2.4 / 5)

Had Champion Energy for my daughters college apartment. Put in a transfer notice for service at new address. After several confirming phone calls from Champion power was to be turned on Friday. As of this writing no power at 11 a.m. Monday. After many calls to the service department over the weekend and promises of calls from supervisors and emergency orders for connection ....no power. If and when they do get it on we will be shopping for a new provider. This is south Texas during the summer.

Just Say NO!

(2 / 5)

After being slammed by EnTrust energy, Ambit charged me a $199 "early termination fee." I called Ambit, Entrust Energy, and the PUCT and got everything straightened out EXCEPT Ambit's termination fee... they literally told me that the money was there's and it would be used toward future invoices... what am I, Ambit's loan service? I've been with Ambit since 2005 and this is how they show respect for a customer! I noticed a few attempts to boost Ambit's ratings by there consultant zombies giving good ratings, if you go to Ambit's Facebook site and try to post even a slightly negative comment, you'll be band, I think the same should be done here! I posted a copy of the PUCT's complaint I filed where Ambit was chastised for not taking care of business within the 21 days allotted and it was removed within hours of my post on a Saturday, Labor day weekend!

Door to Door RIPOFF!

(1.8 / 5)

Not sure if the company is any good, their sales people are crooks. My wife got a visit from their salesman; she informed them we had just renewed our plan, the next thing I see is a welcome packet from them. After being illegally switch, I find out it's easy to do without our permission, there is little to no repercussions to the offending provider, and your current/ex provider will try to keep your early termination fee (Ambit Energy) to apply towards "possible future invoices." Best solution, call the PUC, I did and it made all sorts of things happen that I was assured by my provider (Ambit Energy) would NOT happen. Finally a government agency that works quickly and for the people that pay there salary... thanks Texas PUC!

First Choice Power

(1.5 / 5)

I would not recommend First Choice Power. They manipulate the renewal contracts, do not have a safe check put in place when you pay your bill on line with a check so if you make a data entry error in your routing number or check account number, they charge you as if you had an NSF EVEN THOUGH you can prove you had the funds and the bank did not charge you for it AND the bank can show they had a check come through with data entry errors. THEN to top it off, you are placed in their category were you have to pay in cash until the alleged NSF drops off their system.

So needless to say if you lock in with one of their 12 month rates, which because of how they "get around to processing it" you can't get away from them for another 3-6 months after you think your contract should expire.
For example, we signed up with them in March however we have to wait until July of the following year to change to hopefully a company set up to better handle customers.

Promise the Rewards BUT you never get them

(1.4 / 5)

On 1/7/2015, I was told I had made the 6 payments on time and should receive my $ 50.00 "GIFT CARD WITHIN 4-6 WEEKS". On 2/12, spoke with Victoria, she said "You should receive GIFT CARD ANY DAY NOW". 2/23/15, called and customer service said "NO YOU DON'T RECEIVE AN ACTUAL GIFT CARD. WE WILL SEND YOU THE CODE FOR A FREE $ 50.00 GIFT CARD". I asked to speak to a supervisor, she said there is not one and "YOU DON'T NEED TO TALK TO ANYONE BUT ME". So, On 1/7/15-I had made the 6 payments on time & was told 4-6 weeks for $ 50.00 gift card. GUESS WHAT? 3/2/15-NO GIFT CARD, NO CODE FOR A GIFT CARD. Bounce provides pretty good service but when you are promised a reward for paying on time, it is ALL A LIE. The Customer Service is very very rude and you can expect to get hung on many times. RELIANT IS MUCH MORE DEPENDABLE AND SAME RATE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE EXCEPT FOR "BOUNCE ENERGY".

Google Just Energy - SCAM, Deceptive, etc. in top 5 results

(1.4 / 5)

I feel sorry for anyone that Just Energy steals from. They charged me $20 for 1 day of "service" which I didn't have. I promise to spread the word of mouth as much as possible to save others from being victims. I called them and explained everything, but they knew they were losing a customer so they care to make things right. TERRIBLE!

Sprk is a Mess - Customer Service Problems

(1.4 / 5)

Spark has completely messed up our account. First, our account was inproperly terminted by mistake (somone else gave a wrong address). Our power ended up getting cut off and Spark charged us a $250 termination charge when we never terminated. Then when the incorrect switch got switched back to them, they did not reactivate our old account and started charging us double our contracted rate. We have spent hours on the phone with these people trying got get it straight. They say everything will be OK, but it just keeps getting messed up.

Looking for help and they want to trap me even more

(1 / 5)

Since my month-to-month rate has tripled to .20 cents a kilowatt (without notice and not fair market value which is 12 cents for month-to --month service) I am trying to switch to Reliant but Green Mountain Energy placed a hold on my account ( I am current on my bill) and Reliant cant make the transfer for me until August 2nd-happens to be last day of my monthly billing cycle...I am very afraid what will happen with my bill (right now only 10 days in and they say I owe $170 for a 700 SQ FT apartment)...Customer Service hangs up on me on purpose after I give them my account number since they know why I am calling and they have a record from all the reps who took my calls. 3 hours of disconnects and run arounds..and all this while dealing with a loved ones death..
Why would customer service be so brutal and so ruthless? For what? my little account?
Please warn anyone looking for new service in Houston.

After getting no where with phone customer support I went to email support Still no help just them trying to sell me on a contract.

My correspondance:

Dear Victoria

Thank you for choosing Green Mountain Energy electricity and helping to change the way power is made.

In review of the account, there is not switch hold on the account, meaning if you wanted to switch, you could switch with no problem since there is no hold on the account. When you process a standard switch with a provider, it could take up to two weeks for the switch to take effect. If you wanted to cancel the switch and select a new switch date, you would have to contact the new provider you processed the switch with, to process that request. If your services with us were to end of August the 2nd, we would only bill you for power used at the location up until that date, then we would send you a final invoice within 7 days from 08/02. At this time your invoice of $187.82 is due by 07/24 and your account was eligible for a deferred payment plan if you were interested, but your account is set to be canceled with us and deactivated accounts would not be eligible for payment arrangements. I see that you are being charged high rates because you are on a month to month variable rate, where the price you pay will change each billing cycle and could either increase or decrease. If you were to cancel the switch, and are interested in remaining a customer, we would be happy to review the fixed rates available for the account. If you would like to have the switch date changed, please call the new provider, we are unable to process the request since only the new provider can. If you have further questions, e-mail us back or call us at 866-785-4668. Thank you!

Dear Green Mountain,

I was told I was not eligible for deferred payment plan before I made the switch. I also was forced into choosing Green Energy because the apartment building did not allow another provider. Now that it is under new management, i am allowed to switch to Reliant. I am told by Reliant supervisors that you have placed the hold on the account and refuse to release the date to earlier. I kept calling reliant based on your information and they assure me this is Green Mountains's doing. Reliant said they could change the date to this Friday but that you will not allow it. They say even if I cancel with them and redo the order, you still have placed a hld. If you have not placed a hold, than allow Reliant to make the date change like they have been trying to do all day with me.

Also, why would I sign a contract based on the past billing cycles at 20 cents a kilowatt? It makes sense for me to start fresh with 5.4 cents with Reliant for the first 1000 kilowatts and 8.4 after that. The rep for Green Mountain offered me 12 cents and said my rates could still increase. I am forced by your company to leave your company. Customer service means helping people, not burning them.

I know my phone calls were purposely disconnected when my account number came up. Even with this email, I am still getting the same reverb and run around. You are on repeat because it helps to frustrate customers and hopefully they go away but they do just to a state agency who can help them.

PS. Your paper billing statement will be different form your online billing statement so i assume they are afraid of RICO

ncy, who I later found out was a supervisor called and stated that she could get 9.0 cents kwh including delivery. I agreed and asked her to email the documents. The docs showed 10.4 cents. One week, five reps, two waiting on hold she responded instead of "RIGO" who promised that he would get bacK to me and email me a summary of the steps rhat he promised. NANCY LIED Repeatedly. she said that she couldnt email anything anymore although RIGO could as well as her subordinate vvictorian@justenergy.com who asked for a copy of the email i received vvictoria sent me to Nancy's "supervisor" to resolve this. I later found out not only is he not her supervisor but isnt even in her department.

I believe the company is a total rip off i called to discuss my charges and know one could give me a clear answer on what i was being charged or why the person i spoke to did not speak english well and hung up on me im very great a math and started add up my charges i used 62 kwh at 0.099 a daily charge of 0.33 ( which no one could explain) and a charge of 2.79 transmission and distribution if you do the math it adds up to 9.26 i was charged 9.60 i understand its not alot but i looked back and this happened everyday trust me it adds up. I started to think about it and i belive its just taxes if that is the case then why couldnt the three people i talked to just tell me that and it should show on the statement how much im paying for taxes needless to say im very dissatisfied with the company and have already scheduled to transfer to a different company

TXU is a fraudulent company be warned

(0.2 / 5)

I changed to this company without reading their ratings first. I will never do that again. TXU, I believe artificially comes up with your usage every month, not by what you actually use but by some number they can come up with.My Bill was $300. So the next month I literally cut everything off except for the icebox, stove and water heater. My bill the next month was larger than the month before. How could that be when I obviously used less electricity. They are cheating people. Then when I swigned up I asked them if they had a transfer fee and they told me no. They had a huge fee but they called it a delivery fee which ran over $50. some months. Bounce energy I have now and my bill is $100 a month. I could have been saving all that money. Oh, and when I quit the company and my contract was over and I switched which took a matter of a few days they sent me a bill for $300. for the whole month when the whole month was not used.

They almost got me. I went as far as to call and consider their service and I stopped and said I wanted to check the reviews before hand. After reading idk the first 1000 reviews it is very clear to me that this company isn't who they say they are. Special thanks to all my fellow Texans for spreading the word!

Fraud, Fraud, Fraud company

(0 / 5)

I had a huge bill two months ago and I was mad. In addition when I signed on I asked them if they charged a transfer fee and they lied and said they did not. They call it a delivery fee. Same thing. I asked if they charged to hook up with AEP, they said no. it would be included in my price per killowatt. Last month I cut off my central air and heat and did not use it for close to three weeks and got a bill as high as the month before. They are getting the usage out of think air, making it up or something. My bill is higher than my daughters and her house is three times larger than mine. Do not go with this company.
