Potentia is excellent

(5 / 5)

I went from TXU to Potentia fixed rate 13 months ago and have saved 30%. Potentia offered an additional 10% reduction for renewal.

I Have a Question

(4.8 / 5)

I signed up with Champion from my previous state prior to closing escrow and moving after researching Texas Energy Companies via internet. This is my first year in Texas and the process of choosing your own Energy Company is very new to me.

I have had no problems with my relationship with Champion.

I am on a (1) year contract due to expire and am leaning towards renewing with Champion. But can you please explain something?

My contract rate is .087. But a blurb on my invoice reads "The average price you paid for electricity this month is 10.926 cents per KWH. Why the difference?

Great Service!

(4.7 / 5)

I like the customer service that I receive from this provider. I have had two other companies and this is a step above them. Not much that you can say about utility companies, except how much they drain your wallet. But StarTex gives you ease of payment options (no service charges for Visa/MC) and great customer service.

Love having the choice to go pollution free

(4.6 / 5)

I've had Green Mountain for three years now and it's been great. Can't complain. They're the only company I can find that only does renewable energy and also offsets all of their carbon emission from their operations. Haven't had any issues with billing. It's been about the same price.

Renewal Rate was High

(4.2 / 5)

I have enjoyed working with this company however when I asked them for a more competitive renewal rate they were unable...so for this good paying customer its off to TriEagle who seems to have their customers happy with their renewal rates.

Pennywise Warning for All consumers

(3.4 / 5)

So i locked in a rate last year, everything is done via email and zero mailing.

When my contract expired my rate went from 9 cents avg to 12.9 cents average. I didn't receive any notice other than an email which was overlooked. Customer service call confirmed their was nothing they would do for me. My month to month bill jumped to double what my contract plan was. I dont take kindly to people screwing you after being a customer for a year. Dont plan to go back either

TXU Free Nights Program Canceled

(3.4 / 5)

I made a complaint on this web site back in November 2013 about TXU Energy Free Nights program. I am a solar customer providing energy to the grid in daylight hours. I was being charged for both the energy I consumed in the daylight hours and the energy I delivered back to the grid. I could not get satisfaction from TXU so I complained to the PUC. I sent smartmetertexas.com data to illustrate my issue to the PUC. Smartmetertexas.com data is the actual TDU data from all Texas residents with smart meters. TXU has corrected my bills finally effective 12/24/13. Merry Christmas to me! Interestingly enough the Free Nights program has been canceled as of today 1/8/2014.I suspect I had something to do with that. I think there was something very wrong with the billing on the Free Nights program. Anyway, I analyzed my own data, won my case, and would love to analyze yours too! Contact me at lucihundley@yahoo.com if you would like me to analyze your data for you. TXU will correct it if you have been improperly billed. But you must have data. If you don't know how to get it and analyze it I can do it for you "Feeling" like your bill is too high is not good enough. Data is needed! And I can get it for you! TXU is NOT using TDU data to bill you for Free Nights. They are using algorithms and percentages. But the Electricity Facts Label says they will use the ACTUAL TDU data. You will win your case if you send TXU the real data. And I can get it for you!

No more 3 month plans 6 months in. Total bait and switch.

(2.8 / 5)

I have been using StarTex since last September after seeing a competitive price listing on powertochoose and a recommendation from family members. Everything about managing my bill payments and my first renewal was excellent, but now that I try to renew my bill for 3 months again the second time, I was told I can only opt for a year or more. I have 6 months left on my lease, StarTex, you aren't amazing enough that I am going to pay an early termination fee or go on some wallet gouging month to month plan to continue your services.

Great Prices - Not much else

(2.8 / 5)

So I switched to breeze on powertochoose.org because they were one of the lowest prices around for 100% renewable energy.

I thought it was strange that it made me pay a deposit of $200.00 because no other utility, phone plan, energy company, or anything has made me pay a deposit and I have a pretty high credit score.

At the end of the contract period, Breeze wanted to increase my rate far higher so I went on powertochoose.org and found another provider. No worries, glad we have competition.

However, after my service switched and a few days passed, I did not get my deposit back. So, I called Breeze energy and Jesus was there to help me... only Jesus apparently couldn't understand me and I had trouble understanding him ... I had to give my account number several times and he kept getting the numbers wrong.

Language barrier was very frustrating and I'm quite sure it was not me. I've traveled the world over and spoken to people with many dialects who did not have trouble understanding me. Jesus, on the other hand, was a struggle.

Then I found out that Breeze has a policy not to mail deposit checks until the end of the month and Jesus told me it would be November before I would get my deposit back - when my services ended in September.

I don't know why they need to hold onto my deposit check for a month but... seems a little sketchy to me.

My wallet and my feelings were hurt.

(2.6 / 5)

My complaint with Spark is that when my contract
expired, they didn't notify before or after so i
could renew at a favorable rate and therefore my
rate skyrocketed for several months before i
noticed. They should have notified me. Because of
this I will be leaving them after my next contract
expires. My wallet and my feelings were hurt.

The biggest rip off I've ever recived 400$ 4 a 2 bed appt!!!

(2 / 5)

I feel like I'm being totally robbed by the system !! I'm paying over $400 a month for a 900sq apartment my mother owns a 4 bedroom very large home and she pays the same amount every month !! Now I'm very conscious about my energy usage.. i dont turn the ac past 75 in the day and 80 at night ! I keep all my lights off I unplug all unused appliances and yet all year my lowest bill is still $150 I'm so sick of this total control over my wallet I'm actually fearful now that I will be disconnected as I am not able to pay my full bill until the middle of the month ! I was also disconnected in the middle of july and had to wait 2 and a half very hot days with my very small child to have power again. Something needs to change this is crazy in it's worst form and very evil i might add

TXU Con / Scam

(1.8 / 5)

I just received my "Loyalty Reward" card from TXU via Citibank. Most folks would be jumping for joy to get the card, but that is because they don't understand the SCAM it really is. To use the card, you must activate it. When you activate the card, you automatically ding your credit score because you now have more credit available. You must also give Citibank all of your personal info which means you are inviting Citibank to flood you with mail and loan offers, thus possibly increasing your debt. In addition, by forming this "relationship" with Citibank you are giving them permission to give your info to any of their "related businesses. At the same time, TXU gets a kick back every time you use the card and also knows they can sell / supply your contact info to other would be opportunists that want your money.

The whole "Loyalty Reward" debit card thing is just a big CON / SCAM job to get into your wallet.

Bad pricing and billing

(1.8 / 5)

First, let me start with the positive. This company has good customer service. The reps are friendly and tried to help with the situation. As for their billing and pricing it is awful. The bill makes no sense. I set an account up for my mother's house and I get my service from Green Mountain, so I know what to look for on the bills. The issues with the bill are nothing compared to their pricing. They offer a low rate that DOES NOT INCLUDE charges for minimum use and add ons from the utility. So instead of getting a great deal as promised, I am paying more at my mother's house than my own. I complained to the BBB and the PUC against this company, but little happened as a result. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Not worth the discount

(1.6 / 5)

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. The customer service is horrendous. I can go on about how they shut my power before my due date on my bill then charging me a reconnection fee to increasing my deposit by $300.00 and only giving me 2 days to do it. Just stay away.

retired and moved to Texas ! july2011

(1.5 / 5)

  here is Our experience
DEREG's : (not one co. explains the convoluted plans, very very bad for NOOBS)
what that means ,is vast complexity !
we moved Texas July 26,2011
some how the company changed hands , last month.
and we got no bills for July. (we keep reserves for when we travel out of country.
I got no warning that my rate would go from 9 to 13 cents/kw ! ouch (floating bla bla's)
I called and asked why no bill. Lost or USPS?
I owed a tiny extra amount and CC it, now.
and then was told our contract expired.!
ok ,been here 1yr +15 days,. so signed back up.
(but odd how contract ended in june?)(not told)
but at the end of the week , i get a huge bill.
NOT HAPPY, with StarTEX power.
I will switch and pay the $150 if they dont
agree to correct my billing.
No email was sent to warn us.
not resolved.
NOOBS,nail the contract end date to the wall.
or get burnt. In Texas.
Set stat to 79F. (works great in summer)

avoid Teaser rates ! dont eat the worm....
