Which popular Houston 12 month plans have good rates?

Texas is about to hit its coldest time of year when retail electricity prices increase in response to rising demand. In the next few months, prices are unlikely to remain as low as they are today. Several popular Houston 12 month electricity plans have rates at or below 8.0 cents per kWh.

If your power plan is more expensive than that, it may be time to ditch your current provider. Outlined below are the popular Houston 12 month electricity plans with the lowest prices for homes using 1,000 kWh in a billing cycle. Texas Electricity Ratings helps you compare power plans at any usage. So even if you use significantly more than 1,000 kWh or less, you can find how these plans will work with your normal usage.

Best Houston Electricity Rates And Bill Credits

The Texas Saver 12 plan from Pulse Power has the lowest 12 month rate at 7.3 cents per kWh. No other plan in the CenterPoint Houston service area offers a better price. The plan’s $95 bill credit takes effect when a customer uses 1,000 kWh in a billing cycle. Before you pick this plan, make sure your historical usage has always been above 1,000 kWh per month.

Cheaper Electricity With Plan’s Bill Credit

Moderate usage customers can score a great rate with the Gexa Saver Supreme plan from Gexa Energy. This plan’s 7.6 cents per kWh average price is possible because of an $85 bill credit for usage between 1,000 and 2,000 kWh. Again, check your historical usage to determine whether this bill credit window aligns with your typical power consumption.

High Base Charge With Two-Tier Pricing

The Easy Bill 12 plan from Frontier Utilities has an unusual pricing structure. The plan’s $79 base charge is all the retailer charges until a customer uses 1,000 kWh. The average rate at 1,000 kWh is 7.9 cents because the high per kWh rate doesn’t kick in until at 1,000 kWh. After 1,000 kWh, Frontier charges 19.9 cents per kWh. Of course, CenterPoint Energy still assesses TDU base charges and per kWh charges. There are better power plans available for low and high usage customers.

Cheap Tiered Electricity Rates With Small Bill Credit

The Free Energy 12 plan from 4Change Energy adheres to a tiered pricing structure with a bill credit thrown in. The plan’s average price is 8.0 cents per kWh. However, your price could be very different depending on where your usage falls within the plan’s pricing tiers:

  • 1 to 500 kWh — 11.9 cents
  • 501 to 1,000 kWh — 0 cents
  • Greater than 1,000 kWh — 11.9 cents

To make things a little more complicated, there is a $25 bill credit at 1,000 kWh. Our Rate by Usage Amount graph can help determine whether this plan is a good fit for your usage.
