Our Assessment:

This is a "Bill Credit" plan, it includes a 15.0¢ per kWh energy charge, which is offset by a $125.00 bill credit if you use at least 1000kWh of energy per month. If you do not qualify for the bill credit, your bill could be larger than expected.

For a more predictable bill, you should choose a "Fixed Rate" plan.

Plan Renewal:

If you order this plan and start it today, you will be up for renewal 24 months from now in March of 2028.

Since this plan expires in March, you can take advantage of seasonally lower rates when you renew.

Electricity rates are generally highest from June through September.

How We Rate

We aggregate data from multiple sources, including our customer reviews, rates, Public Utility Commission statistics, JD Power ratings, Better Business Bureau, and surveys.

4Change is a pretty cool idea. A percentage of profits go to local charities and community organizations. 4Change walks the walk and is part of Vistra Energy - so you get the big company backing, systems, fiancial stability, and online tools, while supporting charities and local community organizations. The bonus is that 4Change is one of the aggressive priced retailers in the Texas market.

4Change is one of the more aggressive priced retailers in Texas, and that's agood thing. They do require that you sign up for auto bill pay, and that you have a pretty good credit score.

It's worth jumping through the hoops (auto pay, etc) with 4Change? YES. If the rates are good. (And they generally are.)

4Change is a pretty big size rep, and when you get big you're a big target. Most complaints are around billing issues.

    4Change Energy Plan Analysis

    One Rate 12

    Our Rating:
    Plan Term: 12 Months
    Plan Type: Fixed Rate

This plan is actually really interesting. For starters, it includes the transmission fees in the actual kWh rate, so folks won't be shocked when there's an extra $60 a month in fees they didn't expect because it's not included in the rate. The Energy Charge is pretty low, honestly. This will make your bills super transparent and easy to predict. It does have a monthly recurring charge but it's pretty low compared to some of the more egregious charges we see from some providers. Also, the cancellation fee isn't a flat fee, it's just $20 for every month remaining on the contract. Usually thats reserved for 24 or 36 month plans.
    thumb_upPros:
The good news about this plan is it's a flat rate across all usage thresholds of 500, 1000, and 2000, and the rate includes all transmission fees, which means predicting your bill each month should be super easy and consistent.
    thumb_downCons:
The bad news is it's not the cheapest rate out there, but it's hardly the most expensive either.

    Power Maxx Saver 24

    Our Rating:
    Plan Term: 24 Months
    Plan Type: Bill Credit

4Change's Power Max Saver 24 plan is one of many bill credit plans that have limited utility. The $100 bill credit kicks in at a usage level of 2k, so for anyone using less than that each month, like an apartment dweller or someone in a medium size house with no pool, the plan rate is high. If they have a big house and consistently use loads of power, the rate becomes competitive. But anything less than the biggest energy consumers will probably think this plan is too expensive.
    thumb_upPros:
This plan has a huge bill $100 credit at 2k kWh of usage.
    thumb_downCons:
If you use under 2k, the bill credit doesn't help you, and the plan not a good choice.

    Cash Money 12

    Our Rating:
    Plan Term: 12 Months
    Plan Type: Bill Credit

4Change's Cash Money 12 plan seems to be referencing the Bill Credit that customers recieve at the 1,000 kWh usage threshold. This makes a pretty good dent into the energy charge for customers. So if you have a house and consistently use over 1k kWh, this plan becomes pretty good. The downside is that the plan has a $9.95 monthly recurring charge, which is high, and non-negotiable. Cancellation fee is $20 per month remaining on the customer's contract.
    thumb_upPros:
    Bill credit at low usage
    thumb_downCons:
    High Monthly Recurring Charge
