How We Rate

We aggregate data from multiple sources, including our customer reviews, rates, Public Utility Commission statistics, JD Power ratings, Better Business Bureau, and surveys.

My Take: By Matt Oberle - Sept 3, 2025

Like a lot of providers with a strong brand purpose, we recognize that 4Change has lots of passionate customers who leave positive reviews. And when I take a look at their reviews, that holds up. I see tons of positive reviews, with great scores across all the categories, particularly "Likely to Recommend" and "Customer Service." We always have heard the phrase The Customer Is Always Right, and looking at the reviews people have taken the time to submit, 4Change customers certainly think 4Change does things right.

Best 4Change Energy Plans as reviewed by Texas Electricity Ratings

One Rate 12

Our Rating:
Plan Term: 12 Months
Plan Type: Fixed Rate

This plan is actually really interesting. For starters, it includes the transmission fees in the actual kWh rate, so folks won't be shocked when there's an extra $60 a month in fees they didn't expect because it's not included in the rate. The Energy Charge is pretty low, honestly. This will make your bills super transparent and easy to predict. It does have a monthly recurring charge but it's pretty low compared to some of the more egregious charges we see from some providers. Also, the cancellation fee isn't a flat fee, it's just $20 for every month remaining on the contract. Usually thats reserved for 24 or 36 month plans.
thumb_upPros:
The good news about this plan is it's a flat rate across all usage thresholds of 500, 1000, and 2000, and the rate includes all transmission fees, which means predicting your bill each month should be super easy and consistent.
thumb_downCons:
The bad news is it's not the cheapest rate out there, but it's hardly the most expensive either.

Power Maxx Saver 24

Our Rating:
Plan Term: 24 Months
Plan Type: Bill Credit

4Change's Power Max Saver 24 plan is one of many bill credit plans that have limited utility. The $100 bill credit kicks in at a usage level of 2k, so for anyone using less than that each month, like an apartment dweller or someone in a medium size house with no pool, the plan rate is high. If they have a big house and consistently use loads of power, the rate becomes competitive. But anything less than the biggest energy consumers will probably think this plan is too expensive.
thumb_upPros:
This plan has a huge bill $100 credit at 2k kWh of usage.
thumb_downCons:
If you use under 2k, the bill credit doesn't help you, and the plan not a good choice.

Cash Money 12

Our Rating:
Plan Term: 12 Months
Plan Type: Bill Credit

4Change's Cash Money 12 plan seems to be referencing the Bill Credit that customers recieve at the 1,000 kWh usage threshold. This makes a pretty good dent into the energy charge for customers. So if you have a house and consistently use over 1k kWh, this plan becomes pretty good. The downside is that the plan has a $9.95 monthly recurring charge, which is high, and non-negotiable. Cancellation fee is $20 per month remaining on the customer's contract.
thumb_upPros:
Bill credit at low usage
thumb_downCons:
High Monthly Recurring Charge

Power Maxx Saver 12

Our Rating:
Plan Term: 12 Months
Plan Type: Bill Credit

4Change's Power Max Saver 12 plan is one of many bill credit plans that have limited utility. The $100 bill credit kicks in at a usage level of 2k, so for anyone using less than that each month, like an apartment dweller or someone in a medium size house without a pool, the plan rate is high. thumb_upPros:

thumb_downCons:

Discrepancy in switching contracts

I've been a 4Change customer since 7/11/2023. Just over 12 months. I've always been happy with thier service. 4Change sent multiple emails warning of impending end of contract on 7/9/24. Also, each bill had a statement that my contract would end on 7/9/24. To my surprise, the 7/2024 bill received on 7/30/24, changed that statement to the contract would end on 7/26/24. A sudden switch with no warning.

I had the Maxx Saver Select 12 contract in which the price was .1442 per kwh with a $100 discount after 1,000 kwh. Prior to contract end date of 7/9, I arrainged to switch to the One Rate 24 plan with a .1167 per kwh starting on 7/10. Of course I was expecting to pay those rates until the contract switch on the 9th. But NO, they charged the higher rate until the normal monthly ending date on the 26th.
I went to my utility's web site where I was able to discern kwh consumed each day. According to that information, by not starting the new billing rate when they should have, they owe me a credit of $10.72.

In speaking to 4Change customer service, I was able to get a $10 "courtesy" credit (just to get me off the line I believe). Not the $10.72 I feel I'm owed to make things right.

So, just to let evereyone know, where 4Change never indicated that the new contract would start on the first day AFTER the final day of the last billing period. Not after the last day of your contract as I had planned for.

Now that $10.72 isn't going to make much difference, but it's just the point I think I was duped. It's just the point of the matter. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the company. The customer service person was very patient and courteous. However I had some trouble understanding his heavy spanish accent.

It has been a nightmare. During my first month with the company, I tried using their website to pay my bill. The site did not take my card. After several attempts, I contacted their customer service to be informed that they currently do not take Visa but will take Mastercard or American Express, which I do not possess. I was given an alternative: I could go to a local store and pay cash along with the processing fee of the establishment or have my bank pay the bill and provide the company with the tracking number so they could process the payment from their end. To perform this task, I would have to call them because they do not have a way for the customer to contact them online from their account. The lack of customer assistance in this matter has been extremely frustrating. Unbelievable, I will find another company that values its customers and has processes in place to assist them instead of making the customer do all the work, and the company receives all the benefits.

4 changes major "selling point" is that they donate to charities. I've got the charity saver plan. But every time I try to select a cause in their portal, I just get a spinning wheel. I've tried it on Safari, and Chrome on both a laptop, a phone, and a tablet, and I've been trying since December, upgrading both browsers multiple times along the way. I'd reach out to their customer support, but when I've reached out for other problems (for example they input the wrong email address for me when creating my account), rather than addressing the problem I bring to them, they just reset my password. Repeatedly.

I guess at least their website is working now for showing me my bill - that's something I suppose but even that took months.

Y'all, I didn't loose my password I have a password manager. Please just get your portal working.

VERY DISAPPOINTED with 4 Change Energy. When I signed up for the plan it says 12.3 c across the top. It also says FIXED RATE. It also says $100 credit at 1000kwh. NOWHERE does it say your flat rate is 16.9 c!!! You only get the 12.3c once you hit 1000kwh. So basically this plan is 16.9 c flat rate. And you get a $100 credit if you hit 1000kwh. Compared the previous plan i was on with Direct Energy I am now easily paying $100 more every month. This is a TERRIBLE PLAN and it is MOST DEFINITLY FALSE ADVERTISING!!

After signing up, providing SSN, DL# and a Credit Card - I get an email accusing me of fraud saying I have to call and prove my identity or service (which has not started yet) will be shut off and I will be charged $104 plus a recovery fee of $29 (for service that has no started yet).

So I call, no one speaks english, transferred to a second person who barely speaks understandable english, who proceeds to advise I must send a photograph of my Driver's License with a copy of my mortgage to prove I own the house. I advised, I could send DL, it has address and was promptly advised that I must prove I own the property.

I request transfer to a supervisor who was little help, he could barely speak English, and basically called me a THIEF and a LIAR. When I expressed I felt the email and the tone of the conversation was rude and insulting, I was told to prove I own the property or go find another provider. I asked about the fees I was given some unintelligible response.

Customer service is a joke, full of rude people who do not speak English, have no clue what is going on and to add an additional insult, after calling me a thief and a liar, and my saying I will go find another provider, the supervisor had the audacity to read some script to me about "referrals" wanting me to send my friends and family to be insulted too, I presume.

Bottom line, I am glad I do not need customer service as a customer who actually needs help.

For someone that has a 2 bedroom apartment , one stories, and no one home most of the time due to work I got the last 2 bills for #280 and last one around $300 until I called to speak with a manager. I explained no one is home during day and was questioning my bills. He said this amount was used by you and there is nothing I can do. I explained that I was a custome for the past 3 years and out of a sudden this jump on my last 2 bills, he said sorry. I asked him one last time if he can do anything about it and he said NO. So I end up canceling and finding another company and now my first bill came $70. Uncapable managers and horrible customer service.

This company has no loyalty at all! In spite of the fact that I pay my bill every month, and I have been using them for over 3 years, they still send a disconnection notice and give you a bill of $20"DNP Notice Fee $19.95" for the notice. In addition to the late fee Late Payment Penalty $4.57. So, a Energy Charge (541 x $0.097187 per kWh) $52.58 bill end up being $116. Time to find a considerate bill collector cause that is what they all are.

I subscribed for a 12-month plan. I live in an RV park. My RV is a small single room (21' 4").
For my entire contract, I had a bill every month of $100 +. I asked my neighbors about their bills and all of them were around $30. the month. (taking into consideration that I did not use the AC during the day since I only get home to sleep and they did have their AC's on all day and their RVs are a bit bigger.). From December 13, 2022 - January 18, 2023, I disconnected my trailer from the energy source, and I still got a $40.00 bill. I haven't lived in there for the past months (March 14 - Jun 28) and I do have a bill of $108.00 dollars for this month( only my fridge is connected, AC is turned off). When I contacted the customer service they told me that they can't do anything and that I should contact AEP, which conclude in that there is no problem with the electric pole.

In conclusion, do not get this company!, save your money.

I have had this provider for going on 2 years. I have not had a problem until the last 2 months. When I renewed our contract in Nov 22 I was told the plan I was suggested to get would give me a credit for over 1000kwh used. Which has happened but the part that is very discouraging is I was told that my price per kWh would be 7 cents less if I used over 1000kwh. Come to find out during these hot summer months that this is completely incorrect. I will only save that 7cents at exactly 1000kwh. No less or no more. When I called and spent 30 plus minutes on hold all they could say was well lets change your plan and sign you up for 24 more months. REALLY, why would I even think about doing this when you tricked me into this raw deal I currently have. No thanks!! Ill be moving to another provider come Nov who will be straight forward with me.

I thought that I would be getting a less expensive monthly bill... but I am now having to pay $75+ more than with my old company. I am going to have to go back to my old provider... I cannot afford this expense.

I love 4change. Too bad I didnt know what a great company they were years ago. Easy to get connected. Great rates and friendly service. Too bad I moved and cant take them with me due to having to go with a coop company. Fast disconnect, email and other communication. Great great company.

I have been using 4Change since December of 2012 and have been very happy with the service I have received and the costs have never been an issue. They always look like they are more than the competitors but at the end of the day, the bill has always been less. That is why I keep renewing with them!

We have been happy customers of 4Change for going on 5 years and through 3 houses! Despite moving around, they still offered the best prices and they are loyal to their existing customers with amazing renewal offers as well. Prompt customer service, amazing communication, weekly recaps of your usage, easy bill pay etc! Absolutely recommend.

By asking how soon you can get on a Budget Plan, and the Best Way to get there for you, is well worth the time of going through your learning curve! Saved Tremendously! Corporate Coaching Saved the Day! Highly Recommend their Customer Service, being patient and understanding with my slowness to understand, sometimes, too! Appreciate their Generosity to Charity, also!

Changed over to 4change a couple of months ago and they told me the total cost would be 12.1 cents per kilowatt hour with the delivery charge. (Not sure if the person I was talking about knew about total cost including delivery charge) These last 2 bill I have paid the highest electric bill in 24 years. It was 558. These companies are breaking our backs to make someone rich! I'm not having it.

Your company actually dumped a plan that was more expensive as to make me pay more out of my pocket. When I called to talk to the customer service representative he finally told me that I was being charged $150 more each month than was necessary because 4 change is just trying to pocket more money from me. Shame Shame on your company to scam your customers
