About San Angelo Texas
San Angelo History
It is in San Angelo where the Spanish auspices formed the Franciscan's mission to serve the local people. Juan de Ortega and Juan de Salas led the mission as friars. In 1650, Castillo-Martin visited the area for an expedition, while Diego de Guadalajara carried out his expedition in 1654. While the region was developing, San Angelo was located towards the western periphery of Texas, which was claimed successfully in the 1800s by Mexico, the Texas Republic, and Spain nations. However, it was not until 1846 that the United States claimed it.
The current San Angelo was created in 1867 after the United States constructed Fort Concho, a series of advanced forts designed to protect the frontier. The fort was considered home to infantry, Black Cavalry, famously known as buffalo soldiers, and Cavalry.
