It was purchsed by NRG in 2010, and remains an NRG premium sub brand (like Reliant, Cirro, etc) As a Premium Brand - you will pay higher prices than other green energy providers. Green Mountain Energy prices are generally the highest priced plans.
As one of the senior . . . 25 year+ Retail Electricity brands in Texas - Green Mountain is about as solid as they get. It's owned by NRG so there's deep pockets. Modern account management tools, energy managaement Apps, email alerts and all the bells and whistles you could want from an electricity provider.

During the winter storm here in Texas I was so nervous that my bill would go through the roof.I was one of the lucky ones who did not lose power. I'm a senior and was very very concerned that I would experience price gouging. I did not and I can't tell you how proud I am to be a Green Mountain Energy customer because if it. Green Mountain's Pollution Free e-Plus 24 Preferred is a standard fixed-rate green energy plan. What that means, specifically, is that the plan's rates are a little bit more expensive becuase it comes from renewable energy resources. You're paying a bit more to be carbon conscious, which is standard operating procedure. Other than that, it's a pretty standard flat-rate plan, with consistent charges across the three usage tiers, and no monthly recurring charge. For anyone who makes environmentally friendly energy a priority, this is a good plan to consider.
