About Round Rock Texas

Round Rock History

Round Rock has been home to citizens ever since 9,200 BCE. The region's earliest inhabitants were from the Clovis culture, which is evident through evidence collected at the Gault Site located between Georgetown and Fort Hood. One of the most amazing recent discoveries is the skeletal remains speculated from the Leanderthal Lady since its proximity and age match that of Lander, Texas. However, it was not until 1851 that a small community was created on the Brushy Creek banks adjacent to a big round rock in the middle of the creek.

The round rock marked a low-water crossing point for cattle, wagons, and horses. The community was called Brushy by the first postmaster, and the creek was named Brushy Creek, but in 1853, the postmaster suggested that the small settlement be renamed Round Rock to honor the famous rock.
