How We Rate

We aggregate data from multiple sources, including our customer reviews, rates, Public Utility Commission statistics, JD Power ratings, Better Business Bureau, and surveys.

Ambit Energy, founded in 2006 in Texas, is a Network Marketing, aka (multi-level marketing,) retailer. In 2019, Ambit was acquired by Vistra Energy, (TXU's Parent Company), in a deal worth $475 million.

Looking beyond MLM marketing. Ambit offers competitve rates, green energy options and has comprable customer support. So if a family member or friend is asking you to sign up. . . it's worth taking a look. If you're looking to sign up as a new Ambit "consultant," do you have connections, relationships and cash to offset the startup and monthly costs of the Ambit Partner program?

From an objective standpoint and that's our view. . Ambit has all the bells and whistles that every major retail electricity company has. Top tier billing, good customer service, a modern online interface, etc. If you're a customer it's pretty seamless. Our view of Ambit is that it's problematic for the consultants. The monthly fees, and economics make it hard for any but the most aggressive consultants to break even and make financial sense.

Ambit Energy receives mixed reviews: competitive initial rates but frequent complaints about price hikes, aggressive disconnection policies, and poor customer service. Most satisfied customers pay on time, while those with late payments report harsh penalties. We also get multiple complaints about hidden fees and billing transparency.
