Relieant's Conservation 24 is a two year plan that encourages customers to use less energy. Customers often complain that electricity companies incent people to use more energy than less, and this plan actually gives those folks a legitimate choice to use less. The energy rates aren't all that great, but they're actually LOWER if users use less than 1,000 kWh of energy in a given month. The energy charge goes up when customers use more than 1k kWh, but not astronomically higher. Unlike most of Reliant's plans, this one does have a $5 a monthly recurring charge. As a 2 year plan it also has a $295 cancellation fee.

Reliant's Base Power 24 plan is a fairly straightforward electricity Plan. It's a 24 month plan, or two years, so it has a $295 cancellation fee. The Energy Charge is actually pretty low, definitely competitive with the current market. The only interesting thing is that it has a monthly recurring charge that changes depending on usage. If a customer uses less than 1,000 kWh a month, the charge is $9.99. If they use more than 1k kWh in a month, the base monthly charge is $0.00. It's a pretty good plan.

Reliant's Power Savings 24 is a fairly solid plan. It has a $50 bill credit that kicks in at 1,000 kWh of usage, which brings a fairly high energy charge down to something pretty competitive. Granted, it's a bill credit, so using less than 1k, or way more than 2k kWh will still result in some pretty high bills. But for the sweet spot of small home owners, that use over 1k, but not too much, this is a great plan. It also has no monthly recurring charge, which is nice. Plan does run for 2 years, though, and has a $295 cancellation fee if you break your contract.

I to switched over after going to Walmart and talking to a elses rep for reliant. Everything is going good except I have yet to receive my 100 dollar Walmart gift card, i was told it shipped on January 19th, 2022. Not sure why it taking my so long to get delivered to my apartment.

Have been with Reliant for 6 years. Every year, they would increase my rate for the same plan. I realized that they charge about 1.5x the rate of their competitors for comparable services so I decided to switch providers when my latest contract expired on 9/10. Two days after my contract expired, I received an email confirmation stating that my contract had ended and that I would no longer receive power from Reliant because I had switched providers on the day my contract expired. I paid my final bill and thought that was it. I just received another bill today for an additional $117. I contacted Reliant and they stated that the bill was due to an excess usage charge of 1300 kwh that I had supposedly used on 9/9 - 9/10 (1 day of service). I argued with them saying that there was no way I could use 1300 kwh in a single day when that was my usual MONTHLY usage. They said the usage was reported by TDSP so I went on the Smart Meter Texas website and found that I had only used 40-45 kwh everyday for the past month, including the dates in question. I ended up paying the bill because I was tired of arguing with Reliant and they were not offering any resolutions. All I know is that this entire experience provided reassurance that I made the correct decision in changing providers. I will be communicating to whoever I can to not use Reliant because not only do their upcharge their customers, they are dishonest in their billing practices.

I have averaged about 10 cents per Kwh and never had an issue with billing or hidden fees. Maybe other users didn't read their plan.

My electric bills were $300-$500 almost every month. Absolutely ridiculous. We were so conservative with our electricity and trying every way possible to keep our electric bill down. Other friends with the same square footage house and same electricity usage were make almost half that with other companies. We finally switched and then Reliant adds all these extra charges onto my last bill making it almost $700. Theres a cancellation fee of course which we had no problem paying but an extra $250 for no reason at all. So happy we switch. Do not recommend. Save your money folks.

In this day and age of internet, text messages, emails, instant everything....Not this company. Didn't even try to hide the fact that they are disconnecting people with no notice for the reactivation fees. How american of them. Greed just trumps everything. They wont have this customer much longer. I'm an apartment manager and will never refer this company to anyone ever again. Powertochoose.org people. Don't choose this company. A simple phone call text or email could have prevented this relationship from ending. No more referrals from my apt communities and no more money from my household. BYE FELICIA

I termed my coverage and apparently got charged for a time-frame AFTER I moved out. I turned off all electricity and units in the apartment after vacating but yet I apparently used $60.16 of electricity. When I called and spoke with Angelo in customer service he basically stated it is what it is. Nice! Great service Reliant - said sarcastically.

Solar Panel Owners Beware

In August 2022, I had solar panels installed. The meter was switched to be able to read the solar power I am creating and using. However, Reliant charged me almost $800, because somehow the new meter said I used 1600 kwh in one day. It took months for this to be resolved. I called several times to explain the issue and not once did someone say the 100% Solar plan I was on, was not for people with solar panels. Finally, someone switched me to the Solar Department and got me on the Buyback plan. No rollover plan. So you can't keep what you make. Furthermore, Reliant states they cannot back credit me for all the power I had been generating and possibly using because I wasn't on the correct plan. Needless to say, I am switching.

I called 6 weeks before moving out to cancel my month to month plan. They didnt make note of it so I ended up having to pay for 2 weeks of electricity in an apartment that I didnt live in. When I called to ask the man I spoke to, Jose, was so incredibly rude and wouldnt even listen to what I had to say, then hung up on me. Terrible customer service and completely inept.

I recently had to move from one Texas town to another for work. The apartment complex I moved into has a contract with another provider, so I was not given an option of which electric provider to select. Reliant is charging me a $150 early termination fee, despite not having the selection of providers at my new residence. When I called to speak with customer service, I am informed there is no way to credit the termination fee. I have been a long time Reliant customer, but when my lease is up in a few months and I move into my new home, I will no longer be a Reliant customer nor will I ever provide a positive recommendation, on the contrary I will advise all friends and family to avoid Reliant.

Reliant no longer has any reps in the US much less Texas. I can only speak with someone in Mexico who says they have no way of transferring me to someone in the US.

I couldnt recommend enough to look for a different provider. They will scam you out at any angle possible and charge you the absolute most they can get away with, and they will always charge you a cancelation fee no matter what they say when you sign up. They will not take accountability for their actions, and nothing they do or dont do is their fault. Hard to find an honest company who cares more about you and less about how much you will pay them.

I was with first Choice power last year and was switched over to reliant energy Because first choice power went out of business And they sent my account over to Reliant which is high as hell Shouldnt I get a sea with light company I wanted to be switch to I do not recommend reliant they are a scam artist they are too high is sad I would never recommend anyone to reliant if there was the last like company on earth I will be in the dark is sad and its a shame to go from paying eight per percent to 16 something percent so mean if you have a $200 bill your bill is gonna double to $400

I had someone use my bank card fraudulently last month. My bank cancelled my card and issued another to be delivered via USPS (my bank is out of state). I immediately contacted Reliant to explain my situation since my bill was coming due before I would receive my new card. The representative told me that she would extend my due date but that I would have to pay a late fee. I agreed (against my better judgement). When I received my card in the mail, I got online and paid the bill. Now I'm told by Reliant customer service that I have a disconnect fee of $10.00 and another late fee that I have to pay. I of course refused to pay these fees and I told them that they would get only the amount of my bill for this month. I spent a total of 1.5 hours on the phone to get absolutely NOWHERE! My bill has gone up exponentially every month. Legit from $18.00 to $79.00 to $120.00 for the last 3 months! Since we have been so hot down here in the ass-crack of humanity aka south Texas, I have increased my thermostat to 78 degrees and use fans. These people are nothing but thieves and don't give a damn about anything except stealing your money. I 100% would steer clear of this company!

Was in the process of buying a house, had contracts signed, and then seller broke contract in the last week or so.
Had contacted Reliant when contract was finalized with a set closing date, along with many other services. Then again as soon as I could to let them know to cancel all service requests.

Reliant accepted the cancellation request, and mentioned a date over a week later for the order to be processed - a day or two AFTER the service was to be established.... ?? Not sure why such a long day in CANCELLING an order - shouldn't you just put a flag in the request that it is now cancelled, and close it?

Even after being assured there would be no bill issued, I received one the following month. When calling the company to contest bill, they argued that I did not call in sufficient time, and that I called ON or AFTER the service date (phone records show otherwise).

Have contacted at least twice to contest bill, but still shows in account.

Talked to Reliant about energy after looking at other companies. They also brought up the rates of other companies (which included the power delivery charges) and then they told me their charges of what it would cost with them, but they left out the power delivery charge in the price they quoted me and they were able to get me to sign up (at what ended up at the time being a higher rate than the other companies). I was then told that the bill would come in 45 days, however it came 15 days later at a charge 66% higher that what was quoted. (This is where I found out that the price they quoted me was not the price discussed when I signed up for the service, as the price they quoted did not include the power delivery charge from Texas New Mexico energy). So dishonesty was the first impression from the company.Next was bill number two which should have come a month after the first bill, but it did not come. I get the weekly usage updates, but logging into the account shows nothing due, and no bill has been generated. When I used the chat to express concern over this, they stated that they would take the next month or two to look into the matter. Calling was the same. I asked to speak to a manager and they said the manager will not say anything different than what they are telling met. So basically, impression 2 is that they are not organized and can't figure out how to bill people correctly, and they will not respect your requests to speak to management about the issue. I have never met a more incompetent company as I am trying to get a resolution and they refuse to let me speak to a manager telling met that the issue has already been documented. There are no assurances given that no outages or late fees will result from this, they only tell me over and over that they have written down notes about the issue, which does not give me a good feeling. And with the dishonesty that I was met with at the beginning and the inability to respect a request to talk to management, and an inability to properly invoice a bill, and the total lack of organization, I'm truly surprised this company can stay in business and carry anything over a 1 star rating.

I was convinced to change my plan to a fix bill 2000 kilo waltz i use about half that amount so i asked whats happens to the waltz i dnt use do i get a rebate at the end of the contract they said no so i asked do u give the waltz to people who cant pay their bills they said no so i was like so u resell my waltz and make money off me i said im not happy and i dnt want to give u free waltz they said i would have to pay a disconnecting free so i have to give them more free money just to be a satisfied customer smh i wil never return i hope the free money and money u made off me is worth it to yall

Reliant, a lying greedy company that stole approximately $700 from my Credit Balance after cancelling the contact for buying the Electrical Energy from my Solar System. I was told the 24 month contract had expired and I needed to renew it. After renewing the contract, the next statement showed a decrease in the credit balance. I called Reliant and asked why the credit balance decrease. I was told they will check on it and get back with me. So after waiting for Reliant to call me back, which was several weeks, I called them again. I was given an apology and was told the same as before. I began to realize that everybody I had talked to had an unusual accent that wasnt Texan. Thinking they were new employees, I said OK and waited, sensing the end of the month was near. At the end of the month, the statement showed more decrease in the Credit Balance. I called Reliant again and asked why is this happening. After arguing with several people, I was told the buy back was also cancelled, This was the first time I heard that, I wasnt told that they do not purchase the electrical energy any longer. I told them to cancel the contract and pay me the remaining Credit Balance. They said that they have a two year contract and will not. I also have a security account and I will have to pay that. I do not remember the amount, but it was approximately 22 months at an estimated $69 per month would be $1,518.00. I finally received the Credit Balance, but still have to pay for the Security System. I am definitely upset with Reliant.

I called in May to set up a deferred payment plan and was told I didnt qualify, unknown to me I was placed on a deferred plan and it was canceled the next day. My lights were turned off on yesterday, due to the experience I had I changed light companies and RELIANT has a switchboard hold on my account and I cant change companies I have a disabled father that lives with me and we cant be without lights, I explained that to them, and advised corporate that my father fell last night in the dark.. they didnt care.. I even told them I can make arrangements for my balance and they still are unwilling to help me. I will NEVER use this this company again nor refer them to anyone, we have to be without lights until July 1st

This is a very long story, so bare with me.Moved to Texas and called Reliant on Friday. Everything was going smoothly and they set everything up apparently.. my power goes out today at 9am (Monday.)After going back and forth with them, they figured out that they put the service request in for Tuesday originally.. ok. So they put in a service request for today. A couple hours go by and I call the utility company which they said they do not have a service order to turn on our meter... Called Reliant back and they said there was nothing they could do and said it would be turned on AT THE LATEST TUESDAY EVENING. THEY DID NOT OFFER TO COMPENSATE ME FOR ANYTHING. Even when I asked about my ruined food in the fridge they said "we don't do that." It is currently 7:30pm and 100 plus degrees outside so you can only guess how hot it is in my house... My family is suffering because of Reliant. Why would they not at least compensate us so we can stay in a hotel until this gets resolved because it is definitely not OUR fault. This is all on THEM.-A VERY PISSED OFF MOM and a non future customer.. AFTER my term plan is up that is.

Ive been on the phone with reliant energy for over 2 hours . Been transferred 3 times all to find out they are hiring incompetent workers . I had a simple transfer in Feb . Which they didnt complete, only started a new account without my knowledge.Now the payments Ive been making for months are lost and connected to my old address and account. my account with my current address was closed and Im owing my apartment complex $261 because the lights have been in there name all this time . Kudos to Reliant for having the most difficult electricity transfer process along with incompetent confusing workers . Im currently still on hold just why ??had the 1st representative just made things simple clear and easy I wouldnt have to suffer along with the representative now helping me !

Reliant has battled me for almost a year now. They promise a google hub max when you sign on for a 2 year contract. Reliant energy has screwed me over because in my initial phone call where I agree to the contract I said the words "Google hub" rather than "Google Hub Max" so currently I've been denied the right to null my contract for inaccurate promotions. Reliant has defended their contract by sending me a Google Hub Mini and stating that everything gis now settled on their end and if I'd like to leave I MUST pay myself out of their contract. Have no issues with billing, But a company that cannot uphold their promotional offers for new customers is no company I would recommend. Choose your words wisely with Reliant Energy. I would also like to mention that multiple agents have confirmed my issue is easy to fix, However no manager that I spoke to would assist me in correcting the issue.

My wife and kids who are a state away from me at home had to sweat and go without light because of a mistake you all made. All my food to my refrigerator went bad and I have to replace it in this tough inflated time. Not because we didn't pay but because yall made a mistake . A whole day later my wife is still without power. And all your representatives say is oops. Our mistake. Yalls mistake left my newborn sweating on top of his medical condition. My wife had to find somewhere to stay with all my kids because yall made a mistake. And cost me my whole refrigerator. The least yall could have done was make some sort of effort to display consideration. Terrible service. Would not recommend

Long time customer. I have been with reliant for many years.I recently invested in a Solar System, planning to be a Net Producer. I spoke with a rep from Reliant, they told me which plan I needed to switch to begin to be paid for my excess generation.I wait 3 months for them to be able to see the Solar System, only to find out that they were never going to pay me for my excess generation, despite what I was told by the representative. They simply reduce your bill to 0 + Utility Fee, (they dont even subtract the utility fee ) and use your excess generation for free.Naturally when I found this out I canceled the plan.Then they charged me a 300$~ cancelation fee, when it was a false premise that I signed up under.I've always found them to be a reasonable company, but after calling, and also discussing with a chat representative, they will not recant the fee.Steer Clear if you have Solar.Choose MP2 Energy if you want to be paid for your investment.

So last month around the 21st I was told that my last bill would be that day. I paid it on the phone with a representative. I told her to stop payments on automatic payments for my account to which she replied that she did. Come to find A charge on my account today $37. I was told that was my last bill was my last bill. So naturally I am upset that I got charged yet again. I called and spoke to a representative named Sandra. Sandra basically told me that there was nothing I could do about it. I asked her to get me in touch with the manager. She continues to put me on hold for 20 minutes. I hang up I call back. I talked to a second representative named Martin who immediately got me to a manager named Evan. I told him about his representatives not knowing their jobs and telling customers in accurate information. He didnt seem too concerned. So I got upset. Therefore I asked him get me over to the survey that happens at the end of phone call. Instead he Hung up on me therefore ending the opportunity to take the survey. So here I am telling everybody that will listen, do not go with this company unless you plan on fighting with them every single month. Their prices are kind of high and also unfair. I kept my thermostat at the same temperature whether it was fall winter or early spring. And yet every month it changed drastically. Their company is a rip off and the most unreliable electric company I have ever dealt with. Just steer clear.

Made payment that was cashed by these folks on Feb.22,2022. They have record of it. Had bank fax and email copies of front and back of check. April 5th I get a notice of disconnection to take place on April 11th if payment is not received. I have called at least a dozen times over the past 5 weeks spending total of at least 20 hours on hold and trying to explain to operators and Supervisor that have no idea what they are doing. Has anyone else had this problem? Next call will be to an attorney.

I've been a Reliant Customer for 15 years and the last four months have been a nightmare. The Customer Service is Aweful and they don't respond to to your emails at secure@ Reliant.com so don't waste your time. They have allowed others to stop and start my service and I've been waiting on a refund check for over a month. Apparently Miguel is the top of the line with mangement and nothing he says is correct. Absolutely horrible experience.

Back in Nov 2021 I was switched By CPL to Reliant, acording to them I will keep the same plan, Now in Dic I got a bill for 18.35 which I paid, I talked to a rep asking why it was so low and apparently there was a mistake made by them then I got a text that said that my invoice of 135.00 was due on Feb 9 and today I got another text that I must pay 401.00 by Feb 23. I called and their answer was that they have done adjustments when they switched me. But I told them why I needed to pay Two invoices on the same month ?? They tried to enter me on small payments for five months along with the invoices for every month but If if I accepted the deal I could not switch to another company , I am very angry at Reliant because their mistakes Now I am stuck with very high bills with a Company that I DID NOT CHOOSE!!!!

I had reliant for two years. Everything was okay for the time been. Then suddenly I decided to switch to a different electricity provider and the double my last electric bill. Their excuse is that their system changed my plan to average usage. I did not even know about it. I was like,what the? They told me I need to keep the account monitored. Hello!!!! I had a two year plan!! You were not supposed to change it! Now I have to pay over $400 dollars for the month of December 2021! Are you kidding me?! It's not even Summer!!!this is outrageous!

Our church requested a review of our account several months ago and it was found that we were overcharged just over $1,800, which we were to be refunded. That was several months ago. Supposedly we were sent a check, but it went to the wrong city! Multiple attempts to resolve this have been unsuccessful, with us being told "it will be resolved within 3 weeks." Still nothing!

I pay my bill every month on the 15th. Never missed a payment. Never been a day late. My power has been shut off twice on the 14th!! besides the fact this should be illegal it seems a little suspect its always the day before I pay. I would understand If it was 30 days late but they deliberately schedule there billing cycle to take advantage of reconnection fees.

Have been with Reliant for 6 years. Every year, they would increase my rate for the same plan. I realized that they charge about 1.5x the rate of their competitors for comparable services so I decided to switch providers when my latest contract expired on 9/10. Two days after my contract expired, I received an email confirmation stating that my contract had ended and that I would no longer receive power from Reliant because I had switched providers on the day my contract expired. I paid my final bill and thought that was it. I just received another bill today for an additional $117. I contacted Reliant and they stated that the bill was due to an excess usage charge of 1300 kwh that I had supposedly used on 9/9 - 9/10 (1 day of service). I argued with them saying that there was no way I could use 1300 kwh in a single day when that was my usual MONTHLY usage. They said the usage was reported by TDSP so I went on the Smart Meter Texas website and found that I had only used 40-45 kwh everyday for the past month, including the dates in question. I ended up paying the bill because I was tired of arguing with Reliant and they were not offering any resolutions. All I know is that this entire experience provided reassurance that I made the correct decision in changing providers. I will be communicating to whoever I can to not use Reliant because not only do their upcharge their customers, they are dishonest in their billing practices.

Ive been with Reliant since June and at first the payment was okay like $80 but in July the overcharged me with $390 like how!? Its just two people living in this household and we are barely home?! I tried asking why it was that much but they never give you an answer they just want to consider more plans to stay with them. But seriously if anyone wants a better energy provider go with TXU, screw reliant!

So far the customer service side of things has been fine and we haven't experienced outages unless it's a block-wide one. However, I was jumping between plans every 3-6 months to save money on power before this. Our usual power bill (slight variation during seasons) averages around $50/month. After signing up for reliant for a long term plan my bill instantly jumped into the hundreds. I'm not saying there are sketchy charges, but when signing up I definitely did not foresee some small extra fees becoming big enough to almost double my bill. As soon as my term is over I'm dumping this. I'd recommend hopping plans to get better prices than going with a long term one like I did. Definitely a mistake I won't make again.

Today my wife and I both lost a full days work and all food in our refrigerator. This is the story, we already live at the address we need electricity. A family member had the current account and everything was to be transferred over to my name tomorrow on July 1, 2021. We did everything Reliant required of us in a timely manner. Yet the power was still turned off at 8:30 this morning. Even after calling and complaining all we got we broken promises and the passing of the buck. I'll tell you guys at Reliant and Center Point this much, my job is to sell solar systems and yes I do sell them to your customers. I know that from now on, everytime I am on the phone with one of your customers I am going to rebuttal every chance I get and put as many of your customers on solar that I can. Have a pleasant day.

I regret signing up with Reliant again. Huge mistake. Their rates were terrible. At one point, I had to sign up for a deferred payment plan. I didn't want to, but customer service pushed me to do it, not willing to offer any other option. I knew that would make a mess of things. Bottom line, their rates are too high. Shop elsewhere.

I used Reliant for over 7 years and recently had a terrible experience. Over the past couple of years in our latest residence we have experienced numerous price increases and an unauthorized plan change. After countless phone calls questioning all the changes Centerpoint was sent out to test the meter and not only had to change out our meter once, but had to come a second time to change it out again due to the meters not functioning properly. As a result of all of these issues, we have become very unsatisfied with the service and customer service with Reliant and have changed to a different service provider. After we made the change in service, we were sent another ridiculously inflated bill.Since then we have spent countless hours on numerous phone calls questioning the inflated bill, all the increases, the unauthorized plan change and the fact that the meters had to be changed out twice and have literally gotten nowhere with your customer service department. One customer service representative said that they could offer us a more reduced price, but since we were no longer customers the best he could do would be to reduce the amount by $100. This is not acceptable, we have clearly been grossly overcharged for electricity going back over a year where the rates were steadily increasing.

Reliant continuously charges unnecessary "notice" fees and "recovery" fees even if you keep communication and keep your promises to pay. Although you pay prior to the "disconnect " date you still receive a recovery fee. Even though they offer a credit they expect you to pay full amount or you get charged another late fee, notice fee and recovery fee. Crooks!

I moved my business to a new location and simply wanted to transfer my electricity plan to Reliant. I thought it would be easy. It has been the most difficult process I have ever faced. The customer service reps on the phone ALL have broken English and are difficult to understand. They say the have my issues resolved and the next day another set of issues! How difficult is it for a profitable business to simply set up an account with Reliant? I am now locked into a 3 year plan which I am regretting already. Not from the plan standpoint, but strictly from the service level standpoint. NEVER recommend Reliant again. And I thought they were the big well run company.

Okay, well, you JUST LOST A CUSTOMER. Thanks for showing your TRUE colors in this time when you could have been much more supportive. I have been with you for years!!!! have been with Reliant Energy and the bill has been inconsistent, I'm hardly ever home...I unplug things and rarely run my ac/heat. I transferred their services from one apartment to another apartment complex not far from each other , one bedroom apartment and my bill is always over 130.00!!! I have no kids, one bedroom apartment and hardly home and my bill is Sky high. I never get a good explanation why its soo high. Supervisor told me she couldnt help me and to call center point and hung up on me. WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER

My bill for a small apartment was 3times higher than my house!! When I called in I was told it had it had to be that my unit wasnt operating properly. First of all, it was my bad because i was so busy at this Monday morning 03-08-2021, so i had my wife to call in Reliant to check on the rate and move the plan to our new house if she could. (I should do it on my own.) however, this should not be the reason Reliant jack up the rate 50% tricked her verbally active contract. Now i feel that the rep pushed her to confirm the contract over the phone because the rep tricked her to confirm the rate which is 50% over regular rate in the area. However, she received EFL and contract for final signature which it is typical how I active contract, she forward to me to take look. I noticed the price the of the contract is 50% higher, then I told her not to active contract which she said she did not sign anything yet. she thought the rep is going to send her the contact, she said OK, somehow the rep took that is OK to active contract. about few hours later same day, I reached out to the customer service and even the manager, now they are asking for early cancellation fee to change plan. Well, the matter is the rep offered 50% higher rate than regular rate in the area, if this is few % increased I may just suck it up and stayed with them. Not on this 50% higher. This is the way how Reliant treat the existing customer! I canceled plan because pay the cancellation fee is way much better deal compare this outrage high rate. What a dishonest and Sneaky company!

Why would my solar plan revert to a non-buyback plan when the original contract ends? Why wouldn't you notify me or try to sign up for another plan? I was told it would revert to a plan that would be a different rate, but that it would stay a buyback plan. Coldest month in a decade and I'm paying a higher rate as well as giving them free solar from my panels.They also said that when I switched from regular power to a solar buyback plan that there wouldn't be a cancelation fee because it's Reliant to Reliant. Then they charged me the cancelation fee anyways. I called them and they said they'd refund it, but it would take a few months. A few months later, and it's still there. I call in again and they argue with me saying they won't refund it. It takes a few calls and going around in circles before they finally agree to refund me what they already should have refunded me, and shouldn't have even charged in the first place. Another 2 months later and they refunded me the buyback credit on the solar account! After calling and arguing with them again, they finally sent me the cancelation fee. Incompetent at best, and probably actually dishonest and shady.Definitely canceling and switching to someone else.

STAY AWAY!! Reliant is the most expensive electric company Ive ever partnered with. Ive paid over $1,000 from December thru February. Ive taken all the necessary steps to secure my home for energy waste. The truly free weekend plan is not feee at all! TRUST ME! They get theyre money one way or the other. I keep my thermostat no more than 70 F, regardless of cold it gets, Ive installed all new windows (2 years ago), I use the nest thermostat, I turn off my unit when Im at work, and I have tu free weekends plan. Youre better off paying a flat rate. Forget the so-called money saving plans Reliant has no compassion and no interest in anything except price gouging.

I was told by the sales man that came to knock in my front door that i would get credit of 300 dollars if i joined reliant. I was told to leave my prior provider and to not worry about how it would affect my credit. Iwas told that i would get my deposit returned after six months and I did not. It was a year after. My point is they lie about everything just to get you to sign. As everyone knows it cost money to change providers and it cost money to leave old provider as well. I was fooled and now i pay the price. Please I anyone reads this review please make shure u ask alot of questions. Record the sales man that come to your door, and make shure you dont listen to him READ THE CONTRACT. The sales man will say lies just to get you to sign and will not help if you in a bad situation

I have averaged about 10 cents per Kwh and never had an issue with billing or hidden fees. Maybe other users didn't read their plan.

I am the Loyal customer. I called second time today after first call (the guy very dissapointed me). Second time I called and Ms. Swami answered to my call and she was very professional, nice, she answered to all my questions regarding my rate plan and my rewards. I have three accounts with Reliant Energy. I have been a loyal customer for 30 years. I asked them 5/21/2020 to remove the balance billing program, the representative talked around the subject, and did nothing. I threaten to call corporate office and the manager finally deactivated balance billing this morning 1/13/2021. Mgr. Adrienne id#9114848, told me I had to pay $359.65 before January 20,2021 in order to get a 299.00 credit.My vacant home has nothing in it to pull electricity and Reliant has sent me a bill over 200.00 each month the year 2020 and when I challenged the billing process, Reliant manager said okay today we will deactivate the billing program. They only record in conversation what they want to keep for record. I am at a point where I will be moving to another service provider because my loyalty with Reliant means nothing if you don't pay what they decide is fair. I wasn't really credited anything although the manager said to me my bill should have been only 36.00-40.00 per month for the past six months. No representative ever tell you to cancel billing program if your home become vacant, they only goal is to sign you up and lock you in. I should not have to threaten to go to the news station in order to get this program deactivated.

I will not recommend this energy provider at all. Their customer service is very bad. For 1bed room apartment and for two people I got $260 bill for a month. I was very surprised as this is the highest amount I ever got! When I took the service without signing any contract, customer representative told me per kw rate as 10 cents and for this rate I was expecting my bill around $50-60 bugs, however, upon enquiring again I came to know I am paying 13.79 cents per kw. Customer representative asked me to get into a contract plan to reduce the per kw amount and after signing for a contract also I was getting bill around 170$ for a month. Again after re-enquiring I came to know that no contract were assigned to my account and I am still getting charged 13.79 cents per kw. I will never recommend this service to anyone!

I applied for service in July 1962 w/HL&P and was required to give a DEPOSIT, which I complied. As time passed HL&P was changed to Reliant. I received no deposit back. In March 8, 2019 I Approved a 20 Month plan which was cancelled on December 18, 2020. I talked to Reliant earlier about getting a better rate, and was told that I was getting the BEST WE CAN DO rate. So I applied for service elsewhere. In that I am on a fixed income and the Covid virus I needed Help. NONE FROM RELIANT
Then to top it off Reliant charged me $200.00 dollars for early cancellation. I had over 20 months completed. And guess what did not get my DEPOSIT back either. Its hard for me to believe I stayed with HL&P and Reliant 58 years and this is the way I get treated. RELIANT NEEDS HELP

They are very sneaky with hidden fees. They do not mention them to you as your signing up but they are in the contract. They only tell you the good stuff. The hidden fees are in contract and they really get you on them. Be careful signing up. I dont recommend them at all

I signed up for a average billing cycle which they said would be cheaper, oh no it is not. I pay more for my actual bill. My average would be $120 and my actual bill would be $80 and then they gave me a deferred balance of $400out of nowhere. And if you get off it you would have to pay it. I dont know how they are running they are scammers big time makes it impossible to get off it without paying $600. DO NOT GET RELIANT!

Called them Nov. 2 to enroll. Here we are on Nov. 12 and I still haven't gotten hooked up with them. I call and never hear back. I have had my ac guy remove my TXU thermostat and put a new one in. Paid $200+ for that. They kept telling me they hadn't received my IDs which I sent 4 times!! They never call me back!! Wish I had stayed with TXU!!

Do not be fool in thinking this company is is not underhanded. They add on fees without notifying you, your bill get higher after doing same watts each month, and customer service is so unprofessional. With this company you have watch your bill each month because they will try slip new charge in or get over . Customer service is a joke they try out talk you, argue with you, and no matter how much prove you have to support their in wrong won't honor it. Been with them for year old Reliant was ok but the last few years been bad roller coaster ride. They been even worst during pandemic. No appreciation, no concern for customer well being like being in jail relationship. Do not give them your time or patience go with more professional company.

I signed up for prepaid service because I only needed temporary service. I was told and also read that when you have prepaid service you only receive service for the amount of credit in your account. I left $30 on my account. Then 2 yes later I receive a all from collection for services. I called to get an explanation of why I was being charged when I only had prepaid service and was told it doesnt make sense but there is nothing that can be done about it. This company is a complete scam and is threatening to ruin my credit for a fraudulent bill. Do NOT get this service or you will be disappointed. I plan on disputing the charges and would NEVER recommend their services to anyone

Most horrible customer service and they do not honor their plans. I renewed my plan earlier this year for a plan that included a google mini and they now are saying that they never had one that offered that and will not send me the google mini. I have been on the phone with them 5 different times. The first couple of times the person told me that it would have to be 30 days after I renewed before they would send it. Now they say that was not true there was no such thing. They have continuously lied and argued back and forth with me. I will be changing to a different electric company. HORRIBLE!!! Would NEVER recommend to anyone...

This company has absolutely screwed me over. I moved out of my apartment in APRIL, its now NOVEMBER almost. They auto pay charged me for June, July and September even though I canceled my services in APRIL. I went through a whole phone call recording with a lady and agreed to cancel, then realized I was being charged for someones elses electric. I called again and they said theres nothing they can do so I disputed the charges and now they keep calling me saying I owe $420 when I dont considering I didnt live there. Now I am calling them and they are saying it was a forced moved out which means I supposedly didnt cancel it, they did which is not true. And some how my sisters name is on the account now when it was mine before, when she was a whole separate account with them. THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY YOU COULD POSSIBLY USE. And on top of all this, they just hung up on me instead of doing their job.

Let's start from the beginning. I signed up for a 1 year plan and was recommended the save12 month plan... were you must use at least 2000 kw a month to be able to save. I lived by myself in a 1 bed/1 apartment. I never made it passed 1000 kw a month so my bill was super expensive, every month for an entire year. I was locked into a contract that had a $100 activation fee and a $150 cancellation fee. I bit the bullet and just kept the contract. Skip to the end of the year. I called a month before moving out (11 months in) to make sure that I wouldn't have my planned renewed and that I wouldn't get charged after I moved out. I than received a bill for 8 days after I had moved out?!?!?! I called and was told that I requested it until than which was a lie. Thank goodness I called or they may have charged me for who knows how long?! I called and spoke with a supervisor which basically told me that it's my fault I didn't call the day I moved out. Even though I called a month before moving out. I am so happy that I went with Frontier utilities instead. I will never be apart of Reliant ever again. Terrible customer service, several power outages uncared for, and overall just a terrible year + 8 days of experience. The theft of 8 days of electricity and the reluctance of returning my money made me upset enough to type out this review. This company has had 20 years to grow and haven't learned the importance of customer service. One upset customer willing to tell their experience may guide others to a different company. Words are power.

As a small business owner of a bar, I am disappointed and disgusted with how little help has been provided by Reliant Energy. Their deferred payment plan is a set up for failure with exorbitant costs that go beyond what the monthly bill would actually be. Starts out as relief that snowballs into financial stress. Everyone talks about helping small businesses survive during this economic tsunami...and its all lip service. I can not wait to be financially stable enough to break my contract.

I noticed I wasnt getting billed for electricity for about 2 months! I called Reliant to see what was wrong with my account! I called in September! I spoke to someone by the name of Pedro, although the person I spoke to today said his name was Louis! He stated to me, due to the fact you have been paying on time for past months and have excellent payment history, the company has decided to offer you bill relief! I even asked does it mean they are going to rack up 2 months of electricity I wasnt being charged on one bill? He stated no! Yesterday I receive a bill for $215.55. I called, because my bill was never that high! I spoke to Ana first, she stated thats the amount of electricity I used for August, September, and October! She also stated there was meter reading error and they are billing the extra charges from previous months on this bill as well! I asked to speak to someone higher! I spoke to Eric! He pretty much said the said same thing and stated this is my bill! I asked to speak to someone higher and spoke to Juan! He said no credits or anything can be offered because there was a meter error reading and these are the charges! I stated, since the company made a mistake on reading the meter, the company should offer some type of help for their mistake in stake pilling all charges on one bill and sticking me with it and telling me there isnt anything they can do! This is not the first issue I had with reliant! I do not reccomend reliant because they dont care about you, they just care about themselves!

Reliant does not provide transparency in pricing and clear explanation for drastic increases in monthly bill. I have observed they hike up rates in the summer and have hiked rates during Covid when they suspect many individual would be home. If you call to get an explanation for billing there is a preset script to blame you and accuse you of using more energy and thus high bill being justified. As someone who monitors energy usage precisely to manage cost, the assumptions are grotesquely inappropriate. There is a great attempt by customer service to be polite while providing no solutions to issues and even been condescending as if the individual who has been paying energy bills all their adult lives are incompetent. Customer service will then interrogate you about every bit of energy use in the home so basically you walk away with if you want to have a reasonable or consistent bill in line with your true monthly usage you should live by candlelight and never run AC. Over the past several months my experience with reliant has been absolutely despicable, and as a longtime customer will be cutting ties with this energy company as soon as possible. If you have an opportunity to pick another provider do so. Also the energy plans they have all offer the same inconsistent fluctuation from month to month in pricing.

I've been with Reliant, formerly HL&P since the 70s. I'd never felt cheated until my current plan renewal. I was told I was getting a better/lower rate than my expired plan. WHAT A LIE!!!! I've NEVER had to pay as much for my light bill as I do now! Then to find that I'm locked into this plan for 2 years, unless I pay $200 for changing my plan. I tried talking to customer service, but it was like talking to a robot; no feelings, no empathy, no caring about your extremely high bills, even though you're a senior with a fixed income. NOTHING!!!As soon as I find another provider I am done with Reliant. They could care less about me being a loyal customer all my grown life.

Reliants prices are very sketchy to me. Every single month my bill increases, even if I used less energy than the previous year in that same month. During this terrible COVID pandemic, which has created very hard economic times, especially for a young widow trying to raise two children alone, I feel like your company is just hitting me at every possible turn. I do not have the energy or time to even care to look into another provider because I am barely capable of navigating the death of my husband right now, but I thought you should know your bill, which I can barely pay each month, is the bill I dread receiving the most.

I was conned by a Reliant representative in a Wal-Mart store. She convinced me that I would save money from my current plan if I switched and they would pay for me to switch. She had all of my plan information in front of her. She straight up LIED! I am now stuck in a 2 year contract that makes me pay significantly MORE money monthly and if I want to cancel or even change to a different Reliant plan, they will charge me $295. What a joke! So, time to admit a mistake. A year or so back my contract with Reliant to provide electric service was about to expire. I hate to deal with such so my thought was take the easy way out and just renew. Called them up and this fast talking fellow was so happy to renew me but then says he, "Hey, do you have a security system in your home?" "Several, says I. In differing calibers and located strategically throughout the house."
"No, sir, I mean do you have a burglar alarm in your home," clarifies he."
Well yes, I do. I use a system by ADT.
Well, hey, how about this. We have a program that allows you to bundle your electric service with our security system service and we can offer it at a price that I can guarantee will beat what ADT is charging you.
I felt a hesitation, you know kinda of like seeing slow down sign when approaching curve in the road, but I was on a roll and wanted to keep moving so, "Sign me up," says I.
What a mistake. First the electric service contract was for one year, but the security contract was for three, not a bundle at all, but a knot tying the careless up tight.
then, there is the system itself. the panel is what I call a free-will panel. It talk whenever it feels like it. this morning that was at5:45 A.M. when the pre-dawn silence was broken by the panel announcing, the system is disarmed and ready to be armed. Called Reliant Security and was told, hey that means it is working. Don't worry about it.
Really? Yep, nothing to see here, let's move on. Sigh, one year down and two to go. But you can bet one thing, the next time I feel that warning tinge, I will slow down and proceed with caution.

I chose reliant about a year ago. In the beginning there were a lot of problems with not getting the plan I requested and just tons of errors so I stuck with the more expensive month to month plan for the freedom of not having a contract. I have been paying $220+ per month (sometimes way more). I was allowed to pick my due date when I signed up. That went wrong, I got hit with an obscene bill, and a supervisor called after I called numerous times and did a survey and finally corrected it last year. I had autopay, all payments were on time with no problems for a year. Sometimes I sent extra when anticipating a higher usage month coming up. Suddenly the due date changed, my payment was auto drafted from A) the wrong bank account and B) 3 days early. It did not go through. I called the same day and payed over the phone from the correct account. Found out the due date was changed. Representative found me a better plan And told me the due date could be set back to where I wanted it no problem. A month later, the due date was early again. When I called I was told that I now had a 12 month contract and that I am ineligible for due date change because The account is not In good standing. The rep listened to the call and confirmed I was given incorrect information about the plan and the due date, he confirmed that I did Include in the agreement recording that I only consent to changing my plan if the due date is the 1st of the month (and was told that was ok), I did not get what I requested and he found the payment that the computer said was missing-right there on time and for $5 more than the due amt. He was unable to correct the due date despite seeing that there IS no problem, the payment had not been late etc. he escalated it to another supervisor. That supervisor also stated he did not have the authority to make the changes. I have made several phone calls and reps all state that they find the missing payment clearly listed as having been paid on time, none can fix it. I just want my correct due date which is only 2 days later than where they just moved it to. I cancelled my pending change to a 12 month contract and was told I would not be charged for cancelling as it had not yet started (time will tell if that is true). I am currently looking for another company, the contract would be worth it for decent customer service.

Reliant has supplied my business with electricity for the last 5 years. The renewal contract I signed was for the same energy charge, but, when I received my first bill, the energy charge had been switched to a 50% increase. I called immediately and was told in no uncertain terms that I had no choice but to pay it. I terminated my association with them immediately, then was sent an early termination bill for just over $2,000 (I am not kidding). I am in the process of suing them for fraud.

I've been with Reliant for years (5+). Like many folks, I was lured in by what appeared to be competitive rates. For some reason (and without my permission), I was switched to what is called an "Average Billing" plan. In principal, this sounds ideal. You pay an average bill over the year instead of the huge peaks during summer. The problem is my bills jumped almost $100 a month instantly. I called a couple times, but was not really given an explanation. I dug into the data and saw that my KwH rate had jumped significantly where it wasn't even remotely competitive with other providers. So I elected to shop around and find a lower rate.This is where Reliant showed their true colors. In the background, they had been magically calculating what they call "A deferred balance". It is supposedly calculated as follows:We take your available billing history and -Add your monthly bills for the most recent 12 months or number of months available -Divide the sum by 12, or by the number of months available -Add or subtract 1/12 of your deferred balance which could be a credit owed to you or a balance owed.With their consistent rate increases, you have no choice but to carry a balance instead of a credit. It is a clever and frankly unethical way of locking a consumer into staying with Reliant and punishing you severely when you inevitably leave. My 2019 total spend went from $2668 to $3661 in 2020 with 4 months still left in the year! The final calculation using my new average monthly bill + deferred balance showed I would have paid over $1800 more in 2020 vs 2019! Not only is this practice highly deceptive, it is unethical. BEWARE and do whatever you can to warn friends and family from Reliant. They can and will take advantage of you. And when you finally realize you are being fleeced and decide to leave, they will hit you with a massive bill and refuse to negotiate down. That is how they reward their customers during a massive pandemic.

I want to tell everyone not to use the services of Reliant Electric. It is a very fraudulent and low-level company. The problems faced by me and many of my acquaintances forced me to write this review about the company. Thus, the company sends the monthly payment to the customer as an approximate amount without any notice. The initial contract also states that if the customer terminates the contract, he will pay $ 200. However, when they want to terminate the contract, they want an additional $ 400 and $ 200. The reason for the removal of excess money from the customer, they say, "We indicated the approximate amount of your monthly electricity bill." So, they write $ 170-180 on the bill they send home every month, and (according to them, the actual amount of the bill is $ 190-200), the customer pays $ 170-180. But the company does this without informing the customer that it has understated the amount. Eventually, when they want to terminate the contract, they threaten you with a lawsuit and force you to pay the amount. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE A HEADACHE AND A PROBLEM, STAY AWAY FROM THE SERVICE OF A RELIANT ELECTRIC COMPANY.

What the hell is this service?? You offer to group together security and electricity, charge me $250 a month, even in months were we arent even home to use the electricity. You shut off my power during a pandemic and then have the audacity to charge over $1k in early termination fees if I wanted to leave and thats just for the security system, its another $150 for early termination of the electric contract. Please go with literally any company. Reliant is just money hungry. Do your research before you buy.

They charged me several months for a meter I did not even own. In the end their resolution was that it was my mistake for setting it up with a wrong number, which I did not do. They had no proof of this but still made me pay for the bills. Absolutely ridiculous customer services and in the end terrible resolution. I ended up paying for 4 months of really high bills for something usage that was not mine.

I used them this last year with their free promotion of free nights. My bills are so expensive!! I live alone in a 1 bedroom. I never use over 500/kWh yet my bill is always $100+ they are a complete rip off! Never again!!

Worst electrical company I ve ever dealt with. I was so easy to talk me in with the bs "rates" which actually change based n how much you use. What a rip off! As soon as I done with the I don't want o ever hear about them.
No reminders about your bills, and as every professional person who has a busy lifestyle you forget sometime to pay bills that are scheduled in the middle of the month. I haven't gotten a single mail from them nor email nor a text message to remind me I have a past due bill. I guess it is their little con to get it disconnected and the charge you $40 in disconnect/reconnect fees. " GOOD GOING"! Very ethical.
I tried signing up for automatic payments but everytime they tell me I have to talk to special department. I actually talked to them once and supposedly they saved my information but 2 months later - again - disconnection in middle of the day on a 100'F weather.
I would definitely NOT recommend them!

Friend of mine told me that reliant is a good energy company (it could be true, IDK lol), anyway; I enrolled for electricity services for my new house online and immediately; they request my ID for "ID Validation"I though that was weird but I emailed the front of the ID to them anyway and waited for the next day and I called customer service to try and expedite the services and the agent recommended that we cancel the enrollment and start new one to set the start date sooner, I agreed to that and we enrolled again (another credit check of course) but they asked for the ID AGAIN, of course; I emailed it again and waited for 2 days and just called today customer services and I was kinda hoping for good news
of course customer services just told me now that they need front and back of the ID and did not bother to tell me on the first time and they still need processing time 24-48 hours

Let me ask Reliant
are you trying to push new customers away
and if so
why the heck would you want to waste my time

After all this mayhem, I'm now left with no electricity and couple of credit inquires

When I first moved in, I noticed that their website doesn't always correctly reflect to actual price of what they'll charge you. If you call them, the price will be different. When I moved out, I had an awful experience. I moved out of an apartment on June 30, and called them on July 1. I wanted my plan cancelled immediately, but they said they couldn't cancel it until the 8th. My old apartment complex used electricity in my name for a whole week because they didn't cancel my electricity plan immediately, so I got charged extra. Absolutely ridiculous. It was a total lack of respect to the customer by not being transparent about being charged a whole week of electricity when I no longer was living there. When I called a representative about it, they weren't helpful in resolving my conflict and was uninterested in any sort of compromise for my issues. Other electricity companies are more transparent and able to shut off electricity within a couple days, but not Reliant. I am very disappointed in Reliant after using them for multiple years. They need better customer service, better phone quality, and need to be more transparent with their customers.

Ive been with Reliant for approximately 45 years,of course at different residences in the city of Houston. Ive been pretty happy with Reliant until I moved to 3903 Portman Glen Lane in 2004. Ive gotten up in age, and since time each time theres rain or a thunderstorm the electricity and the gas are turned off. Each time it happens there are problems with the fuse box,with the air conditioning unit. the water heater, and the light bulbs.At this time in my life I cant afford repairs that cause certain items to have shorter lives. My range is affected, and my washer and dryer. As well as my television sets, my refrigerator, and my garbage disposal. Id like to know why these interruptions in services occur and what is your company doing, if anything, to resolve your issues. Thank you.

So I've begun shopping for electric providers now due to covid and at the need for at-home savings, I had the privilege of working with Mr Anthony Trevino out of Grand Prairie Texas. I've always considered myself a smart shopper but never in the area of electric costs. And I've never worked with Reliant Energy ever. My experience today was enlightening to say the least. I spoke to someone that was passionate to not only sell the product but to genuinely help me learn and break down what every cost means. Very disappointed. I would suggest anyone doing business with Reliant understand exactly what your getting into. As a consumer I looked to them for direction instead I just SOLD. It was clear I was looking for the most economic rate and thier other Best rates where never what I was told. There were so many variables one would have to be in the business to comprehend the plan in the billing. Each time I tried working with them it just became worse. For example I was told for example my rate would be 9 cents kwh when it came bill time it would be more like 14.6 So you call back and try again then you get the REAL BEST PLAN...that never was. I'm not one to write negative reviews but feel the consumer needs to educate them self before venturing out with Reliant.I tried for almost two years . Finally gave up.

The plan is amazing for the first year. It is down hill from there on.

My rates doubled and they claim that the rates have gone up for the new year. When i check with my friends that sign up, i find out they have the same rates i had my first contract.

Worked with a local rep that went over with me how reliant would save me money. I decided to go ahead and sign up with her. Looking at my bills for the first two months I am paying literally double per kwh than I was paying infinite. Customer service could only offer to help me change my plan to one with a cheaper cancellation fee and would save me .6c per kwh. Moral of the story, do your own thorough math and homework. Dont go with Reliant.

For several years they charged extra money going towards some charity without permission. They count on us seniors not to read the bill in detail, and especially if its in Autopay thru credit card.
They also send inflated bills.

Hi as you may guess yes I am Mrs Drama Queen. I just became a customer today and power was scheduled for turn on today. I thought when i was approved with 0 deposit it was a good day that it was my lucky day. NOT! First off it was not from Reliant all that had happened , had happened. I had been living with my In-Laws for the past 7 months , 5 days , 4 hours , 57 mins. , and 15 seconds. Yeah that bad. Anyway a house my Mother In-Law owned all of a sudden became ours. My husband and I's. I had to go through drama to get the people living there out. Finally I had to get them evected. So out they went. I am not sure exactly when but they were gone by the time I went by yesterday checking to see if it was cleared so I could starting moving. Well people when you move into a new place dont forget to check everything including the utilities if they were on or off. As far as I knew they were on that pay as you go electric. I had told them a few days before to shut everything down that I wouldn't carry them , so yesterday I assumed all was off. Today I called around for Power and up tell Reliant none of the others made any sense. Seriously! When I was approved and told my Power would be on today. I was excited. My husband he has serious seizures. Especially in hot mugging weather , which was what it was like today. My husband has what they call Grandma Seizures which is the worse of it's kind. And almost all of the time when he has one he ends up in the hospital , at times as long as a month. Anyway after a hour went by I got on my tablet , found Reliant signed up waited about a hour then got on my tablet again , going to Reliant's web page and the lady who helped me ( think her name was Sandra ) was calm , polite , and very helpful. She assured me that the power would be turned on. So after logging off I waited for almost 3/4 hours. You ever have the feeling of pure panic run through-out your body? I did! I was scared out of my mind. My husband usually is the only one who can calm me down. Well he was Pail as a ghost. That's when I started calling again. What they on the other line didn't know , ( the Reliant Customer Service Person ) was I couldnt drive my husband to the hospital , and my tablet refuses to let 911 calls go through. I didn't tell them this , honestly I didn't think it would matter to them. Then my phone decided to have a mind of its own it kept shutting down , and always just when I was about done. It did this about 4/5 times , each time I had ( at least I thought I did) to start over. They , in total I believe was three no four operators , all started out with getting me calm and I would tell them what was going on , never failing right on cue that's when my tablet decided to venture on it's own. It shut off. Well this went on until the 5 time and then I think Juan C. Is his name. He stopped me before I got first sentence out , he said no problem that he'd would read the notes or what not and he'd be right back. Minutes later he was confirming the questions and concerns i had expressed to the other Operators. He said no problem got it. Guess what , yeap my Tablet went blank I wanted to scream , but instead I cried. That's when it happen !Bam! Power! The Power came on. Well my husband is good. He took a cold shower and rested. As the night winds down I remembered what JuanC had said right before being disconnected, he said no problem I got it. And I'll be dam he did just that. Now I on the other hand , Yes I am doing fine but after spending 4 hours on and off the phone , not knowing what I'd do if my husband had one of those moments , I am now off to the liquor store I think it's a good night for me and Mr. Patron to get to know each other. Thanks Reliant for being what all the other electric companies swear up and down to be , but aren't. That's honest , caring , helpful in times of need , a friend. No one has lived in the property since I bought it four months ago. My bill has been 10-20 dollars a month. No AC on and the only electricity being used was to paint and landscape. I got the bill today and it was 210. Basically customer service said someone was stealing electricity or the meter was not working properly. They said I would have to call Texas/New Mexico to dispute the charge. If I have to do everything to resolve the issue then why on earth do I need to pay reliant. I wish we could just buy electricity from TNMP. Reliant is useless....THANK the Lord I fired them!

I had been a customer for 6+ years, but when I tried to negotiate a new plan and waive the cancelation fee, they account services could not answer simple questions. The price of energy is at lows for the last 10 years, and I felt that they were not offering plans that were more affordable. I explained that if they would not waive the cancelation fee for a new plan with them, I would pay it to move my service elsewhere. The Rep I spoke to tried to convince me that it cost Reliant money to cancel my existing account, and didnt even attempt to treat me as though I was important to them. Instead he continued to explain what Reliant offered me (um, electricity billing). I will do everything I can to divert anyone else shopping electricity to never consider Reliant. Texas electrical plans are confusing enough, so dealing with people who dont even know their own products is terrible. Posting the same on their Facebook account about Reliant.

On two different occasions I talked to two different reps. about my deposit.When I first signed up I was told it would be refunded after a year.Its been more than a year and nothing. Not very helpful when you can't pay your full amount. Bill is way to high, $531 for 1 month I paid $500 they sent me a disconnection for $31 in a pandemic !!! About 2 months ago, Reliant started mailing me letters of introduction for new customer at many address all over the Houston area, I called Reliant to let them know that they are using my company name and my home address in the Austin area, receiving dozens of pieces of mail from them per week. They said they would take care of it. Did not stop, then Next I started receiving invoices and now past due invoices as of today. As often as I have phoned Reliant, they have identified someone else for the accounts, Reliant still cannot seem to take my name and my home address off these dozens of accounts that were opened by "someone" nor have they been able to stop the mail coming to my address during the investigation I was told was opened March 6th after I had phoned again. The box of dozens and dozens of mail from Reliant is overwhelming. When will this STOP Reliant ?

While I used them for my needs, Reliant had reasonable rates and I never experienced an outage like I had from other providers. The place they really shined was helping me cancel their services, oddly enough! I spoke with a friendly support person who assisted me in terminating my account due to DV related issues. I would happily work with this company again just because they proved they cared more about my safety and wellbeing than my money.

I would NOT recommend Reliant Energy or Security to my worst enemy. First I had their electricity and everything was fine. Then I signed up for their security service and did the combined billing.....HUGE mistake. Apparently, their system had a few glitches that worked in their favor. According to their contract I guess in the fine print, you lose your $650.00 security deposit if you're 1 day late. Fast forward, whenever I made payments to my account, they would only apply the payments to the electric portion, even if I didn't have a past due balance. I noticed that and called in and spoke with a representative and she informed me that Reliant was aware of the issue and was currently working on the system to correct it. Four months later I get a disconnect notice stating my security was discontinued and that I had to pay almost $1200.00 for early termination even though I paid my bill every month. All money was applied to the electricity and the difference (amount left over after applying to electric only) was swept into the average billing account. When I called in a had a zero balance for electricity and four months of security open. When I tried to pay the open security charges, it took the Reliant representative an hour and a half to get their billing software to accept the payment. It would not apply the monies against the only open charges on my combined billed account. She had to keep putting me on hold and get assistance. Finally the system allowed her to apply the payment against the charges. Then I had to fight to get them to reverse the early termination charges that shouldn't have been charged in the first place. They tried to force me to sign a new contract, which would have put another year or so onto my contract. I said no and I wanted my contract reinstated back to what it was. I found out later after about three months of return phone calls and several emails to upper management that they kept my $600.00 security deposit for being late. Even though I paid my bill every month. I found out from a representative that it was a software issued and that the s..t just hit the fan about two weeks after I originally called in about it. The managers just had a meeting regarding the issue. Reliant is fee happy and will charge you for every little thing. They are not customer driven they are fee driven. Stay away and don't get caught up.

To make it worse, we just got back from vacation to find all the babies breast milk, meat, vegetables and so on wasted!.I call and the guy could give a crap. Im out of here. I contracted the reliant energy for 2 years, the first year was good but the second year was not as they said. After 2 years terms over I canceled the relient and choose another company. They charge me $155 extra for leaving the reliant. This is completely cheating to the customers, I never go back again this company and never recommend any people in my lifetime to purchase the plan with them.This company is a one-time business company, be careful.

Reliant was my energy service provider for quite some time, and things were ok as far as billing. I subscribed to their power surge warranty service program. After 2 years with them, I switched to a different energy provider and asked them to cancel the service including the warranty program as I wasn't using it. Well, they continued to charge me for that program despite me telling them in May to cancel it. Ultimately, I called their warranty subdivision directly to cancel, but even after that, they kept charging my credit card for that fee. I had enough and called my bank to dispute the last charge. What they did next, I can only describe as fraudulent for a company to do. They started charging me 25$ extra each time I disputed the charge. Throughout the process, they never responded to the dispute with the bank and instead continued to charge me 50$ extra on late fees for what was originally a 5$ charge of a service I had canceled well back in the past and if I don't pay it, they have threatened to send it to a collections agency. This company is egregious in its billing practices and if anyone wants to join a crusade to take them to court, I will gladly jump on that bandwagon!

I was a Reliant customer and after my contract was up, switched to another contract in Reliant. After about 3-4 months, I noticed that my monthly bill kept going up and up. I called and they told me I did NOT have a new contract and was paying the premium rate on a month to month basis. I decided to switch carriers because of their dishonesty. When I left they billed me $1700 for the money I saved in my contract for leaving. I made monthly payments to them to pay this off and they told me I would not be turned over to collections as long as I paid. THEY LIED! After 90 days, they referred me to a collection agency and my credit score dropped 96 points over night!!! I have talked to everyone to no avail. I am considering taking legal action. Steer clear of this second rate company!!

Zero! Military families near Fort Hood, take this advice. Do not use this company and if you are currently a customer, switch before it is too late. This is the Verizon of energy services. We learned the hard way, but you don't have too. This company have plans that are made to trick customer into paying more. For example, if you select the 2,000W and you are under that amount you will pay penalties. If you select the 1,000W and go over that amount you will pay penalties as well. Their is no win-win with this company.Their customer service will trick you into switching plans by telling you that changing the plan within the company is available to current customers. That is not true! You will be stuck with a plan that doesn't fit your needs. You will be paying, like us, over $400 a month in winter for a small house. Our bill used to be $60 or less in winter season since our house is heated by oil. We decided to cancel our services in December 2019. Paid the final payment of over $350 with penalties on Jan 17, 2020. On February 2020, we received a bill for non-electrical charges. Yes, you read correctly. The company was charging for something other than electricity. We contacted two customer reps regarding the surprise charges. It seems that the customer rep back in December 2019 was not smart enough to cancel a protection plan (hidden charges we did not know) when we requested to end the contract. It was only $6.99 but I was so upset. After two months I was still dealing with this unreliable company. From one military spouse to another, look for another electrical company.

Word of advice do not ever ever sign up with Reliant there are just a bunch thief's I signed up for month to month average billing started the month of March with 1,144 KWH total cost with delivery charges , energy charges,ect $86 Fast forward to July for 2,000 KWH during a hot summer paid $135 total. Now November comes around the corner were at $223 for 1,150 KW. So we decided to leave Reliant as their prices went up tremendous come to find out on our last bill they charged us $384 for deferred balance which we were never told about the only thing the sales rep told us was that it was month to month.

Reliant started out good, then they implemented "Demand charge" mid way through the contract. our KW usage remained the same, however the bill doubled due to the demand charge they decided to pass thru from center point. I had a very bad experience I ever face with any energy providers in states . RELIANT is one of the worst and bad energy provider.I took a night free plan and for every month Im using about 800 to 1200 kw per month the charges for the usage is 19.7 c /kw and there is a big gambling in collecting other charges on top of the kw uses that charger per month is $40 to $50 and these charges are never told by them.For a two beb room apt Im paying $240 every month even a big office space would not pay that much where the power get consumed in a high kwI strongly tell all the families people who think the reliant to be there service . I signed up for average billing with Reliant effective in September 2019 and realized in October that the average billing amounts were estimated way to high. Since I had started with Reliant in August, they were using just that one month as the average billing amount for my October bill. Anyone living in Texas knows that the August is the hottest month and the highest bill, not the average. I did not sign up for average billing to keep paying my highest bill of the year in the cooler months. Therefore, I began paying only for my actual usage and paid it in full about two weeks early. I did not anticipate receiving a late penalty or a disconnect notice in November for not paying over and above what was due for my actual usage. The deferred balance is my own money to be held by Reliant (with no interest) for credit to future usage. Other utility companies Ive used have not done this. If I dont have extra to pay that month, I just dont get the credit to lower my bill later. Reliant has not seen reason on this issue and I will be contacting the Public Utility Commission.

We Signed up for a plan we had seen that was advertised everywhere for the free nights and weekends( or so we thought ) -our bills were high before so we wanted to try and save money. Who knew the stress of high bills before could only get worse when we signed up for reliant -what were high bills before became Insane afterwards when we received bills with all the added in fees -what we had paid with other companies of $2-300 a month sometimes more became ridiculous with our highest being over $600 -you might think we are living in an icebox in the texas summer but no our ac is at 78 and I got to listen to 4 teenage boys complain about being hot all summer long -I weather stripped all gaps in doors and windows,used the tint on windows where the midday sun would hit,did everything I could think of but the bills still were insane-even during the cooler Christmas weather where we normally would be down in between $160 and $200 with other companies we were at around $500 -it wasnt even a cold year -called and spoke to someone and was told we actually signed up for the free night and weekend save your money plan which save 1c per KWH not the free nights and weekend plan we thought we had -called again and spoke to someone else who told us no we dont even have a free night and weekend plan -so tired of this endless game of maybe you will get them plan we advertise with the teeny tiny fine print that means it isnt actually what you think but youre stuck either way -cant wait to get away from this horrible company and its ridiculous advertising games -then they had the nerve to offer me average billing -wth why would I want average billing based upon the astronomical bills you already charged us ? So you can drive me over the edge for another year ? I dont think so

My son and self moved into our 2 bedroom 1 bathroom house (less than 800sq ft) at the beginning of 2019, and our landlord recommended as Reliant as "one of the cheapest energy providers". I naively and blindly called Reliant to set up service. I spoke to a rude and uninformed woman (and the manager who called me a week later about my complaint about this representative was also rude and unprofessional) who sounded like she was taking my call in the middle of a daycare. After trying to make me pay a 500$ NON REFUNDABLE deposit, she was able to "come up" with a 75$ non refundable deposit option with their "Free Nights" scam - I mean plan. She told me it would be 17 cents per kWh (because at the time my credit was on the lower side), and quickly made me sign their e-documents before I had a chance to really read their terms of service. So I finalized the paperwork, and established service to our new home. Firstly, a deposit because of lower credit should always be refundable if on time payments are made by the customer, which mine were always paid early. Secondly, I was quoted and told 17c/kWh, but it was actually 25 cents per kWh under the guise that my nights were free. Thirdly, low credit should never mean a higher kWh price, and that is straight up taking advantage of a single mom who had fallen on temporarily hard times. After I received our first month's bill of 200$ for our teeny tiny home, I was a little worried, but not terribly so...until I steadily watched our electric bill climb from 200, to 300, to over 400$ a month for our little home! We are energy efficient, but not according to Reliant's lying app. We have all brand new energy efficient windows, appliances, and LED light bulbs for every light fixture. We did laundry at night during our "free hours" , and we kept the HVAC at 80 degrees in the summer and 60 degrees during the winter. We even had our water heater and HVAC serviced twice to see if we had any problems to create such high bills. We had the insulation and home checked for any areas that could be causing a draft. Everything was in working order.Since they had locked me into a 12 month contract with an early termination fee, we froze and sweat in the dark all year, just waiting for our sweet release from these con artists. Finally the day has come where we have been freed from their overpriced clutches, and now have a green energy provider who has cut our electricity bill to a third of what Reliant was charging us! And guess what? ZERO deposit. Stay far, far away from these deceptive, rude con artists. There a dozen other providers that are reliable, friendly and a third of the cost. I wish I had done my research sooner rather than later (and that is my own fault), but I am hoping by sharing my experience I can at least prevent some innocents from being taken advantage of by this mega corporation. I will never use Reliant again, and I will continue to warn every person I know and meet of their deceptive practices and ungodly pricing.

Reliant energy will find ways to rip you off once you have been when them for a while. Most importantly is how much they rip Texans off in the summertime! Also be wary of their contract cancellation policy as you only have 3 days from when you make any agreement with them. Total RIP off!!!I tried to cancel my contract with them within 3 days after the contract started (so I could change providers), nope bad idea as it only lined their pockets further with a 225$ cancellation fee. Best advice is check out the PUCT website for power to choose price info.

Reliant was the easy option as an out of stater moving to Texas. Coming from a regulated utility state, it was a learning curve to understand the options and what they mean in Texas. After the promotion period wore off, I spoke on the phone to transfer service from our apartment to our house we just purchased. I also set an end date for the apartment and thought nothing of it. Several months later a mail forwarded a bill of over $400 for utility usage at that apartment I was no longer occupying. I disputed with Reliant, went through their process, they had no record of my ending service, but somehow had provided service to my house... Their final offer was a $50 credit off the balance which I declined to pay someone else's electric bill. They have now sent me to collections which I am fighting. Never ever sign up with a company as scummy and deceptive as Reliant!

This company throws money at you to get you to sign on, then their bills come high, to entice you to choose average billing, still those average billing is high compared to my usage historically with other providers. This company has been scamming us. We suddenly were signed up for "average billing" with no evidence or confirmation. We use 50 a month in electricity clearly indicated on the graphs they provide. Our bill is over 100 usd every month. On top of this we "OWE" them 100 more dollars even thought we have paid double and triple for our electricity. Our meter was dead they told us it was not possible. I had to get it fixed myself with the meter company. Then they told me they will talk to the meter company to get it all fixed and they never did. This was August. Now it is December. I have spent countless hours on the phone with them. I have talked to some of the worst representatives that would not give me their names or their employee numbers. I believe their tactic is to make you so angry and annoyed you over pay hundreds of dollars. I have complaints in with the Better Business Bureau. This is an on going scam that needs to stop.

I have been out of my home since August 28, 2019. The home is completely empty. yet, through reliant's average billling scam, despite the usage, they charged me over $1000 since I literally moved out the home. As the other users stated, they will make you pay back any savings under the average billing plan on the back end. Somehow, despite the small amount of usage, it is justifiable for me to pay this excessive amount. It makes no sense. I hope no one else experiences such an unconscionable act.

So today we signed up with reliant energy, the day to turn the electric at our home was 12/04/2019. I do not know what made me call them this evening before closing and guess what I am glad I called they asked me for a deposit witch I paid and it was taken out of my account, when I call this evening they informed me they do not service that area I was like what you all signed me on took my deposit gave me a connection date and an account number WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DO NOT SERVICE MY AREA yes I was very upset I have a 6 year old 5 year old and 1 year old they need to have electric when they move in to the house. they agent that was the supervisor by the name of John Pier said well we do not service that area , but we will send you a full refund with no cancellation fees on your deposit and it will take about 22 days to get to you by mail. What do you mean I just logged in to your web site and it shows you do service that area I even called the Representative from Sams Club that signed us in so are you all running a scam, He said no it appears their is a glitch on the website and I do not know why Sams reliant rep would say we do service it. so If I would not have called I would not have found out that they did not service our area and I would have moved in Wednesday with all my family and no electric. Now its 7:58 pm and can to find an electric company that is open that services that area 76028 how sad that they are scamming people taking the deposit and not have the courtesy to call and let you know now my family will suffer the consequence of their so called glitch. Ant the united coap services in Burleson Texas will not open till Monday so I can set up electric.

Been with reliant for years , business and residence. Paid faithfully every month. This months bill was apparently received late. Was told two notices were sent-( not received) . They received my $800 monthly payment and still cut me off bc I unknowingly owed a late fee for That same month! I called and explained my bill payment Is from offsite management and I did not have access to the credit card for the late fee which he insisted I pay or not have my service turned back on!!!!!!!( I could not use my personal credit card as I was robbed a few days earlier) this cut off was before the next bill was even due.The supervisor I spoke with ,while I was in the dark, knew I was very upset as I had been drilling on a patient!!! He had the nerve to tell me he would not turn it back on unless he recieved the forty dollars. I had just signed on for another three years in sept .This company endangered my patient , failed to inform me and failed to use common sense as I have been with them for years and always paid. Needless to say they are %#%#% in my book. I want out of my contract and was told no way out. Do NOT do business with a company that has employees that can not even think beyond a forty dollar late fee with a faithful paying customer, Centerpoint tried to call me and warn me that my electric company wanted to cut me off and I thought it was a scam. Odd that they took the time to CALL and try to warn me but this %#%% reliant could not do so. I will make sure every one I can talk to knows how %##%^* reliant is.Yes I am forced to stay with rhis piece of #%#% company and will make sure I advertise how awful they are. $40 for negative marketing . All this bc they wanted forty dollars for a late fee and they could have added it to the next bill if they wanted to .Reliant is rotten.

Do not buy energy from them. they charge you 30.00 for being 1-3 days late and this was never explained to customers as they sign a year contract that they cant get out of.I will be going to another energy company regardless. I was a Reliant customer for 10+ years and when I first started with Reliant I received excellent customer service. Unfortunately, the last 2 years became absolutely frustrating and due to the horrible customer service and lack of care to the customer I changed providers. The sad and unfortunate thing is that once I switched I received several calls from Reliant asking please come back we can offer you a great rate and they were so nice, I asked the people that called me why now was I getting good customer service which no one had an answer now Im being harassed about my final bill, I just received it on Wednesday and I already received 2 calls about it. Its absolutely crazy.

This sis our 1st time w/Reliant and there Security system. Worst Experience ever, there Billing is a Rip off and they try not only to charge you 2 but 3 times for the same Bill of there Security system. There Customer service is the worst and broke English speaking people and Not 1 CSR can help you or answer ur questions but yet they can All see the incorrect charges but yet can't get them removed or credited back to you. Don't set up Auto Pay because they will keep taking Multiple payments and then claim they didn't double charge you, but yet Customer service can see the excess and over charges but won't do anything about it. CSR can't transfer you to the right person either or billing department. I spent 2mo on the phone trying to get this corrected but NO 1 would help me or resolve it. I had to cancel my Auto Pay and let my bank know not to let them try to draft a payment until they fix it but didn't. I had to change my services to TXU Energy, which I should of done in the 1st place the old way.

I have used Reliant for several years and wish I could find a better alternative. Recently when I switched from a regular plan to a solar buy back plan Reliant skipped one of my payments which I did not catch and now Reliant doubled up my payment in November. The result is it leaving me in a cash quandary. Reliant must be forgetting customers have other bills to pay so thanks Reliant for now adding extra stress so can cover my bills.

On 10/10/19, Dallas had a storm of lightning, thunder, and heavy rain. My power was interrupted at 9:00 p.m. On 10/11/19, I called Reliant about the issue and the delayed responses from Oncor to fix the issue at 2:30 a.m., then 4:00 a.m., and progression to 11:00 a.m. Reliant wanted to say the responsibility lye on Oncor, but I beg the difference. I hired Reliant to supply my electrical service, and I have been a top A-One customer of paying my bill on time. Reliant need to intervene with Oncor as to the reason why it has been 13 hrs. and counting for the re-connection of my service. I hold Reliant accountable to intervene since they hired Oncor as a utility supply company.

I switched to Reliant. Received a great rate. I was informed that I could extend my contract to 2 years with this great rate. I called back in one month and was told that I could not do this. I have been with reliant for 4 years and they slowly started creeping up my electric bill. They became even more expensive than TXU. Do not use the average electric program! My bill got up to $150 a month in a small one bedroom apartment. Then after I moved, I owed $300 extra for paying the difference of the average utility bill. SO it is a scam! They are not helping you save money. They will make you pay for it later.

I changed my plan online. A month later, the plan was not changed. When I chatted with customer service online, was told it takes 1 to 2 billing cycles to change the plan. Not sure what takes Reliant so long to change the plan. If it requires hardware change whenever customer switch plan? From customer perspective, it is inefficient.

On Sept 10, a male came to my house and was making small talk with my elderly Mother. After hearing this for a few minutes, I went outside to see what he wanted.He made no effort to introduce himself by name or employee ID number. I asked him (based on him wearing a Reliant Company shirt) if he was here to sell electric plans. He said yes. I told him that I was happy with who I currently use...TXU. He looked down at his list that he was holding and said that the name here (my Mother's name) is different from mine. I told him that I cover all house expenses and that (again) I was not interested. He then begins to question me about how much I spend each month. For the third time, I told him that I was not interested. He kept going with what seemed to be a interrogation and started to ask me why I was getting upset. I told him that I was not and that he needed to leave. He kept talking and making his comments as he walked slowly off my property. I told him to never come back. I called the number shown on the Reliant Website and spoke with a Gentleman who told me that he was not able to help me, but that he would/and did, transfer me to another number. After being on hold for almost 45 mins, I spoke with another Gentleman, told him my complaint and gave what information I had concerning this unpleasant interaction with a representative of Reliant. Buyer beware.

I recently moved and started a new Reliant account. The sales rep asked me a lot of very invasive and personal questions, such as "when do you get home from work" and are you at home on weekends and if not, how long are you gone from your home" and on and on it went because "he was trying to figure out which plan would suit me best". I finally had to put a stop to it and tell him that he was making me uncomfortable. If Reliant is asking reps to get this personal with customers, it really needs to stop. It's just plain creepy, especially for a woman that lives alone. If I had another choice of provider, I would've hung up on him after the first question. Unfortunately, Reliant was my only option so I just have to cross my fingers the rep was not a stalker with all of my personal information at his disposal.

About 3 months ago, a Cancellation fee was added to our bill-- we never requested to cancel. We noticed the fee and contacted Reliant. They have not been able to correct the bill amount ever since. I refereed my fried to Reliant on 13th June,2019. I Suppose to get the referral of $75. Meantime, I cancelled my reliant account (1st Aug,2019) but last bill is pending for auto payment on 19th Aug,2019.
I called reliant customer service after 1st Aug,2019 at least 4-5 times and I was told the credit $75 will be adjusted with my last bill.
At last on 18th Aug they are saying, they can't apply because account is deactivated.
Point is why they didn't tell it upfront? Why they wasted my time and set a false expectation? This is very very very frustrating for me as a customer.

I tried to switch from Reliant to Life Energy. However, Reliant put in a move-out order (which I was not doing nor said I was doing) which cancelled out the request for Life Energy. Now, I am just getting all the bills and fees (over $200) from being without a service provider (unknowingly) for 3-4 months timeframe. Reliant has admitted their part on this. They have provided unprofessional customer service during the whole ordeal or is not taking responsibility to help me recoup from this unfortunate circumstance. They do not seem to care about customers and have lost one for life.

I dont usually write reviews; that being said i felt the need to write this review after terrible treatment. Weve been with reliant for a few years now and put in a transfer order TWO WEEKS AGO to move our service. Two days ago, we checked online to make sure everything was still on track and looking good- online it was displayed that we were good to go. Today I got home from work to find my dog panting violently from a 90 degree apartment and all the food in my fridge perished. I call reliant to see what is the deal and they tell me that they have canceled my set up because of a problem on their end. Now, they are trying to charge me $150 to set up a new account with a deposit because their people messed up my order!! Truly, this is a red flag for a scam and after going back and forth for a while they decided to take off the deposit charge. Meanwhile, it is now too late in the day for them to turn on my power even though they are recording today as the first day of service. My food is wasted, my apartment is 90 degrees and I have no power until they can get a technician out here for who knows when. This should not be how a business treats loyal customers who plan these things TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE. Severely disappointed in Reliant and will keep writing reviews to warn others.

Two young men in Walmart approached me with information. Normally, would not have taken the time. The appeal was free nights. I work as a housekeeper. Get home @ 6 pm, turn AC down, do laundry, cook, shower. Literally, Reliant saved my bank account. Was paying between $2-300 per month on electricity. As a healthy senior, that was still a large amount of each months funds. Cant say enough about Reliant Energy, truly rescued a senior trying to survive. Now I am revived, cool and clean for the next day for unbelievably low cost! Not paid for this review, just so truly blessed by this company!

Don't sign with Reliant energy they are a terrible company. For starters they have poor customer service. Also the web site is purposely confusing in how they don't let you know when your contract is up but will send out a notice about if you want to resign next year 2 months before contract is up for their own benefit. They at least could include a warning of the fee if you break contract early. I didn't know what I was missing until I left them and now my provider gives me weekly emails about my power usage and bill estimation, so I don't have to log into the site to find out. What a smart idea! So don't go Reliant energy they don't care about their customers at all.

Customer Service set up 3 different accounts, all I want a transfer service, paying on three different accounts, they delete 3 times , shut power off in the process, in span of 24 hrs, one 8 Representative did not know what was done on account. Plus requesting a $600 deposit. WTF... They blew out 2 of my UPS and computer monitors with shut downs.

Someone referred me to reliant my worst experience.This company was charging me for usage that were not performed. Charged you $20.00 a early disconnect notice on top of that 10:00 reconnect fee. Truly amazingly sad. There were times that I'll be gone away for a month my usage read 1800 kw, I they claimed they send someone, I know that was a lie. Then they gets an attitude when you question them.

We switched to Reliant several months ago and are almost at the end of our current contract. We have 2 accounts- residential and commercial. My husband told the lady from Reliant that we wanted our residential account switched to Reliant. She stated she did not need the ESI number for that account. Well what she did was switch our commercial and the manger told us there was nothing he could do. We ended up paying an early cancellation fee for the commercial and was charged twice for the electricity for the residential since that contract expired. Thanks for costing us roughly $300 Reliant because your employee didnt know what she was doing and made your customer pay for your employee mistakes!NEVER again Reliant!!! BTW Gexa was great when we used them and we will be going back!

I use very little energy in my 1850 sq ft home - top month is August at ~900 kWh. Reliant does not offer plans that fit my usage habits and wont negotiate. Also, highest Energy Charge!! More than 3.5 cents higher than other companies. Refused to negotiate with loyal, long-term customer. What??? First time in 25 years I kicked Reliant to the curb.

I wish I could choose less than 1 star. My life was perfect until I switch to Reliant. Iwas so happy with TXU paying bills lower than 200. Reliant has this catch of average billing that the only thing they do is still your money. I got bill of 295.00 dollars every single month.....I canceled the contract regardless the cancellation fee. Now I am with another company. STAY AWAY FROM RELIANT!!!

Such a horrible experience. I started my contract with them on June 16, 2018. They sold me on the fact that our first month would be free and every month after would be reasonably low. I was tight on money at the time so it sounded like a great deal. I did not look at reviews which i should have and was a mistake on my part. First month was free as promised, second month was reasonably low also as promised...then third month comes and i get hit with a 300 almost 400$ bill. It's now March of 2019 (9 months after I started the contract) and I still to this day pay 350+ on my bill every month. I work 2 jobs so I'm rarely ever home to use it. I have multiple friends that live in HOUSES that don't pay anything more than 90-150$. If I could rate this 0 stars I would. If you are looking into Reliant I recommend you NOT to unless you want your pockets hurting every month. I wish someone would have given me this advice before signing! Worst electric company by far!

I signed up for their prepaid service seeing I just purchased my first home and was undecided on what company to go with. Boy Im glad I did sign a contract. Horrible service! My service was not turned on the day I was told. I called back multiple times and spoke to a supervisor who assured me it would be connected. 2 hrs later, nothing. I had workers at my home to complete my floors, needless to say they did not get done due to no electricity. Lack of training, communication, and customer service. Oh and I requested a refund for what I paid and they said they would mail me a check, they didnt even have the desecntcy to refund my debit card, thats how I paid. I WIll be telling everyone not to go with reliant, dont waste your time or money!! I would give zeros on ratings if I could.

Their billing department could not draft from my account with out consistently making errors for reasons that are still unknown. I was charged fee after fee after fee and would have to regularly call to get them removed. I finally had to change providers and cut my losses. Absolutely the worst. Even the final bill was not final. I would live by candlelight than deal with this company again.

Reliant has issues with their billing system and the text message service. They blamed my bank for billing errors, and the bank provided me proof that it was Reliant. The shut my service four times in two weeks for a payment that was made.

I would give this company ZERO stars if able. I've been with them for going on three years. I've always paid my bill on time despite the fact my bill is higher every time and I'm only home at night! I recently had a baby and ended up losing my job due to insufficient childcare. I just started a new job and unfortunately have been playing catch up the past two months on bills. I needed just THREE days to pay! Which was the day I got paid. This company had no remorse and still cut off my service in 40 degree weather with a 9 year old and newborn baby. We came home to no lights and a freezing apartment. It's been a difficult time period for me! Just had a baby, lost my job, and my children's father had also just passed. All they told me was that there was nothing they could do and for me to call 211! Which also wasn't any help! I wasn't even asking for anything to be waived, discounted, nothing! Just a few more days to pay my bill in full including any ridiculous fees they added! I hate them and I am currently searching for a New electricity provider! I know for a fact there's better out there because the previous provider I had at my old apartment not only would work with you on a payment plan instead of instantly turning off your lights, they also offered a discount since my kids were on CHIP so my bill was never more than $80. Unfortunately, they do not offer their services on the area I moved to which I hate.......

A salesman came to our door stating that we had been overpaying for our electric bill and we needed to sign some papers to get a refund and a reduced rate. When my wife asked if he was with the energy company we were using, he said yes, and claimed that Reliant was just a subsidiary of the other company (a complete fabrication). He was actively deceitful and forceful in pressing the paperwork, and gave zero indication that we were signing up for a completely different electrical company, even after asked directly about it and after the paperwork was signed!We called Reliant that evening, told them about the fraud, and specifically instructed them to cancel our enrollment. They assured us that the enrollment would be cancelled, that we would experience no service disruption, and that we would be perfectly free to remain with our current energy provider. That was last week. Today, we received a notice from our current provider that our service is being transferred - this despite the clear assurance of the Reliant representative that we wouldn't have to deal with this. I have a recording of the phone call where their agent promised that we would be free to remain with our current company with no issues; this was apparently just as honest as their salesman was.We will never ever use this company. If this is how they conduct their business, it wouldn't even matter if the energy was free, it's not worth it.

We started with Reliant electricity when we moved here in April from Nc. We had no issues until September when we realized we were about to be disconnected. Apparently, because of The lack of security, Reliant let some random person call in and use our address to disconnect or service.
Mind you, we were and still are under contract with them.

This whole thing has been a nightmare. We are a single income family and our electric bill has almost doubled. That is A BIG deal for us. Our budget is super fixed, especially after our son was born with undiagnosed health issues.

I have spent so much time talking to Reliant reps and they assure me everything is fine, then its not, but this time it is, until now when they are telling me this big balance is due. It is so frustrating. It feels like Reliant doesnt value me as a customer or a person as I have spent so much time trying to resolve this issue. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB. I just want to advise anyone thinking about using Reliant , to reconsider.

Everything with Reliant takes months to process. On the top of that, their customer care representatives push the costliest plan they have to the customers to reach their sales quotas. They make it difficult to leave a contract, and try to squeeze every penny from customers in every possible way.

They didn't approve my application the first time I applied for electricity in July, though I had submitted all the required documents. Rejected my application almost after a month, during which I was fined heftily by my society. Later when I applied for the second time, one of their customer (dont) care representatives gave me the costliest electricity plan available with Reliant and now my electricity bill is increasing every week. I have submitted a request to change my plan and the timeline given to me is 2 months. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!

Stay FAR, FAR AWAY from this company! They will rip you off with their "average billing". They will put you on their highest rate and charge you out the wazoo! When we finally cancelled, they sent us a final bill for over $900, even though they've already fleeced us for thousands. I wouldn't even wish these criminals on my worst enemy.

Reliant had the best month-to-month pricing I could find at the time, which seemed too good to be true, so I expected the rate to jump up the following month. So far with the second month, there has been no increase. I also really like the monthly estimated cost and energy use notifications as well as the website itself, which is very good in my opinion.

I was lured into their ofc. At Walmart. 1st they told me I would get a 12 3 with free weekends and 75.00 coupon. Sounds Great! Signed! Then as I was asking questions they told me if I use less than 1,000 my rate goes up for using less. I continued asking questions then it was revealed to me if I use more than 2,000 my rate changes again! Totally confused by all the rate changes! In addition, I told them my contract with my previous company ends on 8-14-18 so I don't want to start with them until 8/15/218, fine it was stated on the contract. I should have know by all the RED FLAGS, but my neighbor has them and referred me. All fine .right?! NOT! the day I signed 7/27/18 they started service. Which meant i received a cancellation fee and lost my .8 from my previous provider. When did I find this out? WHILE ON VACATION!! yes, I started receiving emails from both providers!! Which added to my confusion and interrupted my vacation.. thanks Reliant! So I tried hard to put this out of my mind until I can back from vacation, worked somewhat! When I came back it was a TOTAL MESS RELIANT CAUSED THAT I HAD TO CLEAN UP! I was on the phone with their office several times! In addition, I had to call my precious provider several times to take me back ASAP. Will never leave TriEagle, their rates are good, consistant, billing is easy to read and customer service is AWESOME!!! will not recommend Reliant they are dishonest!

My boyfriend and I had Reliant for awhile and I also just had to set it up for my boss in his new place. They SUCK. Theyre more expensive, and their customer service is awful. Every time we have called, which is several separate times, the customer service constantly tries to upsell you. And when you say no, they ask Whats the reason, why not? Have you tried it before? to try and make you feel awkward and get you to pay more money. I felt like I was talking to a robot. My boyfriend has also gotten contradicting information from them before and it is very hard to fix issues or ask questions since you have to call and field all the upsells being thrown at you, regardless of what youre calling for. And I waited at the end for a survey and the woman just was like like I said, have a good one, good bye!!!! very rudely and hung up and I got no survey. Of course.

Our bill usually runs 400-600 month. Thats a lot. But this past months bill was 809.00....WTH thats patently improbable. Its just my husband and I. And we are fiercely diligent in using the least electricity possible. Rarely turn the AC on. Dryer broke 2 months ago and we will not be replacing. We use clothes lines now. Unplugged a 2nd refridgerator. Weve had an above ground 24 round pool for years. Husband maintains it and turn pump off regularly. Hes semi retired and Im disbabled. We spend mist of the time on the patio by the pool because the breezes keep us cool. Know what we did today? We had a last minute garage sale so we could eat this week. Im not kidding. We also needed to fill gas. The 200 above normal bill has made it a difficult week. So while my husband is manning the garage salad duties, Im spending a beautiful afternoon researching other power companies and plans and reading reviews. Like: Hello Customer, were concerned about an unusually high bill you just received. Please call 800..,well figure this out. Absolutely despicable. And I plan on highly discouraging anyone I can from using reliant. Starting with a Facebook post of the bill. Almost forgot. When I called customer service today to ask for a few faux extension to pay the bill ( first time ever asking for one on 35 yrs ) she said balance was zero. So reliant already got their grubby hands on my $ and its on hold. So now its gonna to hit my account and theres not enough in there. Ill get rebilled with late fee. She didnt have any idea how to help me. Useless

This evening two young people came to my door claiming to want to help me understand my electricity meter. They were wearing T-shirts with the Reliant logo on the sleeve. They had badges and a solicitor permit. I told them that 8 pm was too late to be knocking on my door; and, that I had no intention of showing them my electric bill. Turns out they were part of a group of 4 young people in our neighborhood knocking on doors. The neighbors reported that two of the people cursed them and flipped them off. The ones who came to my door were polite but didn't want to take no for an answer. In my opinion, this is a bad business practice for Reliant. I will NEVER consider using Reliant because of tonight's experience.

If you are a potential new customer Reliant will offer competitive pricing and incentives. If you are an existing customer considering renewal once you enter your address you do not see the best offers that apply to new customers only.
Example: New customers are offered Nest + Home, existing customers only get Nest.
So there is an incentive to leave Reliant, check out other suppliers and maybe come back as a "new" customer later! No incentive to stay as a good regular paying Reliant customer

Agents working in Walmart do not provide enough Information.
My Security Deposit was not refunded as I payed half of security deposit and the agent did not tell me that the deposit is not refundable if you pay half of it.
The billing is too expensive.
They do not provide good offers.
The average monthly plan has some amounts added to the bill is not understandable. Please do not opt for average monthly plan. Reliant tries to fetch more money out of your pocket with this option.
I would not recommend this company to anyone. This company cheated me.

My 1st contract with them was great with very competitive rates. But after it expired my next 2 contracts the rates kept going up and up. Finally I had enough and just switched to TXU Energy and now have lower rates then my 1st reliant contract. They also told me my plan ran out on the 27th of the month so that's when I had TXU take over but in reality my plan ran out on the 25th so this way they sent me a 2 day bill which the usage was only $4.88 but they got to hit me with 1 more monthly base charge. Ridiculous!!!

Initially, it was fine, prices are what I expected. They gave me a $200 credit which covered multiple months of charges. I was really happy and recommended their service to others. Then the bill began to climb. I paid what they said I owed, but there was always a balance forwarded. I asked for explanations. Now, they have my bill 240 due, with 174 due on May 7th. My personal audit showed they charged me twice in Feb, 2018. I sent them an email, explaining the over charge. I'm a senior citizen, healing over a bad car wreck , unemployed. I walk around my apt. in the dark, to save, wrapped up in a blanket to save, don't have a washer/dyer. Don't use the dishwasher, don't iron, bath once a week, keep the blinds closed. I swear, this feels like elder abuse. I need your help. It seems no conversation with their customer service with resolving problems never makes it to their accounting, so the price keeps ramping up

Been with Reliant for close to 10 years. Signed my dad up using the referral process to get a $50 dollar credit for both of us for switching from TXU to Reliant. His service was switched to Reliant a few days after placing the order. Called about three months after the changes asking about the credit. I was informed that although he may have service with Reliant now the service had not been switched over within 30 days of the application for the promotion. The service was switched over within 4 days, not more than 30. One thing you can rely on with Reliant...weasel out of obligations and promises is the way Reliant works.

On Monday, April 9th, I received and email letting me know that my credit score had dropped by 40 points as I had charged a large amount onto my credit card. Upon logging in to see my credit card activity, I saw that Reliant Energy (Reliant Energy )had charged my card the amount of $6390.17 for one month of electricity (for Feb-Mar). I have auto-pay setup, that is why I did not notice this charge earlier. I immediately called Reliant Customer Care and they said there isnt anything they can do right away, that they will have to investigate it and would call me back within 2 days to give me an update. Since I did not hear from Reliant Customer Care, I called them back. They have no news. They were questioning me that maybe I had used that much of electricity. Im outraged, these charges do not make any sense. I live in a small, 2-bedroom, 900 sq. ft. apartment. Over the past 5 years my electric bill averages about $100/month. There is absolutely no way I could have consumed that much electricity in a months time. I explained that an individual had come out back in March and had changed out my meter and that this might be a reason why this had happened. Maybe he didnt reset something. All they say is that they will investigate. My credit card is maxed out and I need it as that is what I use to buy everything like my groceries, my other bills and is my back up for any emergency that I might incur. We are under tremendous pressure, with all these things going on. Also, my credit score has been significantly affected and this hinders me greatly as I was planning to buy a home this summer.

I set up the power for my move and service under my name and account started on the 11th. The previous owners put a disconnect in for the 14th which was a Sat. My power was disconnected. After 3 calls and all day wasted, they finally told me at 9 pm what happened. She said she would send a priority over to Oncur to flip the switch, it will be on shortly. Still here it is Sunday, no power..... called Reliant again, they now tell me Oncur only works 7-7 Monday thru Friday and my power wont be in until Monday sometime. Im now 2 days behind in getting work done and house cleaned for when the movers get here Monday morning. Extremely dissatisfied with customer service, mistakes are made but at least dont waste my time lying to me or just being lazy and not getting to the real issue. Then seriously you dont have a way to flip the switch on the weekends??? Or an actually number to someone at Oncur other than the business account.

I received a promotional offer from Reliant in the mail (and continue to receive these offers!). In the beginning of February, I called to inquire about the offer and spoke with a Reliant Representative. We discussed rates and I told him I would need to shop around. I did so and found that Reliant's rates were HIGHER than competitor's rates. The representative called me back & I informed him that Reliant's rates were higher than competitor's rates. The rep stated he would ask his manager about what could be offered. He came back with a lower rate and I stated that I agree to the lower rate (of course!). The rep explained that the termination fee with my current energy provider (which I had had for years) would be "off-set" by the promotion we discussed. I did not receive the "offset" of $300.00 from Ambit and called twice to inquire. The first time I was informed that it would be credited on the second billing cycle. When the 2nd bill came, I still did not have the $300.00 credit. I spoke with a Manager that listened to the recordings of my conversations with the Reliant Representative and concluded that I had said, "yes I agree to the lower rate." (which I did). It did not matter to the manager that the representative failed to explain to me that the lower rate EXCLUDED me from the promotion. When I asked the rep how the termination fee with my previous company would be paid, he explained it would be "offset" by Reliant, leading me to believe the promotion was still in effect. The representative neglected to tell me that the promotional offer was no longer in effect since I had chosen the lower rate and did not explain that I would need to email or fax my final bill from my previous energy provider with the termination fee in order to receive a credit. Although the Reliant Manager disagrees, I found this to be very misleading. It is clear that Reliant provides training to their Representives that includes using any type of tactic possible to gain customers. It is disheartening and this is not the type of company with whom I would ordinarily do business. I was finally given instructions by the Reliant Manager as to how to at least get a credit for the termination fee I have already paid. Unfortunately, I am locked into a contact with Reliant now for an entire 12 months. I will continue with Reliant until my contract is up and will then go back to Ambit which was absolutely wonderful. I feel foolish that I was "suckered in" by Reliant's tactics. The morale of the story is "if it looks too good to be true, it is." Bottom line, if you chose Reliant's $600.00 promotion, you will pay HIGHER energy rates than the competitors. Reliant "stands behind" their tactics to gain a larger customer base. Now I just hope I at least receive the credit for the termination fee that I paid to my previous provider. I followed instructions from the Manager in order to receive the credit. However, based on my previous experience with Reliant, I am very concerned I will not receive this credit. (keeping my fingers crossed)

This is one of the only times in my life I am writing a review, but Reliant has tested my patience. I came home from work once to find my power turned off!! I have auto payments and my account was current, had never missed a payment prior. Turns out they turned the power off in the wrong apartment when they received a move out notice. So I went without power for two days because of this "mistake"!! I had to call several times before someone finally set up a new account for me and turned my power back on. But it gets worse. My bills tripled after that!! I paid almost $300 per month for the next few months. And mind you I live in a tiny one bedroom apartment. It just doesn't make sense. I am so frustrated with Reliant and I wish I never got their service. I urge you to go with a different energy company!! And hopefully you have that option!!

Theyre doing monkey business. Their agent at Walmart lied about them charging fees to cancel service. I asked how much they charge for early cancellation, he said dont worry about it. I agreed to sign up, I filled out my information and I didnt see anywhere charge for cancellation is $295. They deliberately dont show it when signing, and their representative denied they do charge $295 for early cancellation. They tricked me into their service. I found out about the fee when I got their welcome email. Then I could clearly see the $295 for cancellation. Had I known about it I would not have signed up. Theyre liers crooks . I complained to them in an email and phone call, they said theyll not cancel my service without charging me. So Im stuck with them for the entire contract period of 24 months.

I had service connected in my name and I was required to pay a deposit. My step daughter put service at her residence in my name without my permission and left a bill for over $600.
I paid my deposit and her bill. Even though it wasn't from me.
I then moved and has my service reconnected. I was told as soon I paid my final bill they would refund my deposit.
I called back after I paid my final bill and they said it would take 2 weeks. I waited and no refund. Then I was told it takes 2 billing cycles to refund it. I waited again. I called back my final time and said my deposit was non-refundable. There was no explanation why and had NEVER agreeing to forego my deposit ever. I was lied to several times and not only did I pay off my stepdaughter made, I can not get my deposit back. I consider her and reliant thieves!

Everything started out good. I had a good rate of that was an average of 0.08 cent per kw. My first bill in my 2 story 3 bedroom was $170.00. After that everything went downhill from there. Every month my bill seemed to increase every month. Everyday no matter what even of I turned my heater/a.c off for like 3 days I always got a message saying my usage increased by 25%. Somehow my usage went from 1800-2100 kw to 5700 kw a month. Im not a math genius but if im doing the same thing every month theres no way on gods green earth my usage should skyrocket like that. They wouldn't tell me their supervisors full name for all i know they could send the call to one of their friends in the mail room. They refused to let me get my smart meter inspected. The more I dug into this company the more I felt like there was something off about it. Will never use or refer this company to worst enemy.

The first two bills for October and November reflected mild weather, however Fort Worth temperatures during the period of high invoices in December and January were very cold for an extended period. While actions in the home were the same, the temperatures outside required more usage to sustain. Customers across Texas saw higher winter bills this year than they are accustomed to and we understand the frustration and hardship that caused. As temperatures have now warmed up, usage has returned to normal levels. I was a Reliant customer for years. I always gave them the benefit of the doubt about their rates and fair billing practices. I started looking around and checking prices of other electric providers. I noticed 1 thing, they were all lower. I switched to Just Energy 4 months ago, and my bill has been cut in half. Not only do I pay a much cheaper price per kilowatt hour, but I'm not paying a charge for the provider fee( in the area I live, it is Encore). I called Reliant after I received the first bill from Just Energy to get an explanation of why I was over charged so much for so many years. I was told that Reliant catered to low income customers with bad credit and because of that they did not require a deposit. I then informed him that I have never paid a deposit, since my credit score exceeds 800. The salesperson insisted on giving me lines of b.s. but never gave a real explanation. Stay away from RELIANT Energy, they are a bunch of crooks.

I just cut off my power with this company. I was using the pre-paid electricity. They kept saying my balance was in the negative. But I was putting money on my account every few days. Even said I used nearly $14 on Saturday. (I unplugged everything that day) there problem with me using that is that I was out of town all weekend starting Saturday morning at 9am. They are a complete ripoff!

This company's goal is to take advantage of people with low income that can't pay a deposit. They constantly increased my daily averages when my usage didn't change. One day that I wasn't home and the only thing running was my refrigeater my usage went up $5 from the previous day. My advice come up witb a deposit or find a company that doesn't charge you one.
